Bobby bones show moving from Austin to Nashville. Will become national.

Guess KVET isn't going anywhere. Maybe the new morning show'll try getting it back on track, but knowing CC it'll just be all music with no personality anyway.

KVET is still around? Last I checked the ratings dropped below 2.0

Bones says executives with San Antonio-based Clear Channel Media and Entertainment first approached him about being “the next big country superstar” late last year. Stunned at first, he eventually decided to take the plunge.

“What you’re doing now is big,” Bones said he was told, “but what you’ll be doing is even bigger.”
(while they're thinking and we get to save a TON on money)

This is just bizarre. I wonder how many other morning show folks will lose their jobs across the country because of this?

Oh and great news, he's going to do a country countdown show too....which will severely reduce Bob Kingsley's program, and probably Kix Brooks show also. Just think CC can force all their stations to run Bones' show, that should save them money.

KVET has changed a bit over the past couple of years, but I enjoy hearing a playlist that is not dominated by bubble gum / pop country artists...I can switch over to KASE for that. And KOKE is covering alot of the one offs that you would not hear on either KVET or KASE. I do hope that the ratings can improve if they are doing so poorly...can't imagine the noon hour without the Star Spangled Banner and The Eyes of Texas.

While this could, and probably will, change over time, the initial list of affiliates for Bobby Bones shows no job losses, except maybe for the existing morning show at WSIX. All the first affiliates are either fairly new launches that never had a permanent morning show or were carrying Big D & Bubba.

This is a huge revenue hit for 96.7. And could harm their ratings, too. If this really has been in the works for months, they have to already have someone in mind. Kidd, I would think, would do squat in the ratings judging by its past performance here. Kidd's show didn't do very well in Houston either and was dropped not too long ago.

Kidd Kraddick blows. Am sure he'll end up on 96.7. Just like he ended up on 96.1 in San Antonio after the "local" show was "removed". Who was the PD in SA that made all that magic happen? Kraddick has done reasonably well in SA since, so maybe it'll work with the right format (CHR) and station.

Interesting move. Seems a bit risky but the reward is worth the risk. Bones has done well establishing himself but ultimately, Texas is still Kidd Kraddick's territory and he's going nowhere for the next 5+ years because of his presence in the DFW market.

I do wonder what 96.7 will do? I think it would be better to keep it local and take a chance on some new blood.

Ironically it's the proliferation of syndicated shows and voice tracking that handicaps the stations in bringing in "new blood." They used to grow in small markets and move up.

Might be not a bad time for another company in Austin to jump on Top 40, before KHFI gets back on it's feet.

There's nothing remotely special about KHFI whatsoever. There success has been linked solely to the morning team and a lack of competition. The former is about to go away, so when's the competition coming? I really wish someone would flip to CHR and brand themselves as the "local and live" home for hit music, with local promotions, station events, music-intensified mornings, and a local airstaff. KHFI should consider moving Cruz back from KHKS to do a local morning show. He's already on the lineup, and his afternoon show has been killing in the ratings despite an empty studio.

First KOKE comes, then KDRP, will Austin's next community orientated station be top 40? Strange idea, but a year ago I would have never expected KDRP to enter Austin.

Cruz is the reason I turn the station off in the afternoons. I'd put money on Kraddick, or another syndicated show. Bones stopped being "local" when Wichita came on.

Really? Is that how Bobby got his gig?

I was really fascinated in Bobby's story, hired at age 22. I thought the general view is that people his age aren't interested in radio. Somehow, he found a gig at CC.

The proliferation of syndication and voicetracking weeds out the weak talent. A station doesn't have to put someone on the air just to get a warm body in a seat. They have lots of choices.

Good for the station, not so much for the talent. Years ago I was one of those warm bodies willing to do anything and eager to learn. Someone gave me a chance to launch what turned into a 40+ year career (so far.)
