Singer Bobby Caldwell, famous for his R&B hits “What You Won’t Do For Love” and “Open Your Eyes,” has died.

He was 71.

His wife Mary Caldwell announced his passing via Twitter on Wednesday morning.

She mentioned that he was suffering from health issues for the past six years.

“Bobby passed away here at home. I held him tight in my arms as he left us. I am forever heartbroken,” she tweeted.” Thanks to all of you for your many prayers over the years. He had been ‘FLOXED,’ it took his health over the last 6 years and 2 months. Rest with God, my Love.”

According to Regenerative Medicine L.A., “floxed” means “your body has suffered from mitochondrial damage and oxidative stress due to an adverse effect from a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. The term floxed in many can feel like a bomb going off in their body with new symptoms appearing daily for the first 90 days.”

It's when someone takes something like Cipro or Levaquin in combination with ibuprofen or steroids and has symptoms like muscle weakness, anxiety, heart palpitations, etc. I guess it's a cumulative effect.
 
Amazing talent and a singer that I grew up with and enjoyed up to this day. He will be forever and ever missed. RIP Bobby.
 
He sang "What You Won't Do For Love" on the Saturday version of the CBS Morning News a few years ago. His voice and appearance were good. Sorry to hear this!
 
"What You Won't Do For Love" was the first song I used on my spec tape when I applied for (and GOT) my job
at (then) KIOC ("K106") in Orange, TX. in the late '70s.....

Bobby Caldwell's music resonated with me over the years. Of course, there's his hit from 1979. As far as I'm concerned, "What You Won't Do For Love" is ten of the best songs, ever. He had a minor hit a year later with "Coming Down From Love" which I'd recommend too. Caldwell also wrote/co-wrote "Next Time I Fall"--a hit for Peter Cetera and Amy Grant, and Boz Scaggs' "Heart Of Mine."

I'd say one of my favorite Bobby Caldwell songs is "The Real Thing", from the Heart of Mine album. It helps that I listen(ed) to smooth jazz stations like KOAZ The Oasis, which play a lot of Caldwell (and Al Jarreau, Sade, Anita Baker, Incognito/Maysa, etc.)
