Bobby Fenton...now five hours a day!

1010 made the announcement today that Bobby is replacing Mike & The Mad Dog and going 2-7 PM (God forbid the Lazy Chix actually do an extra hour).

Poor Bobby, fired from 1470 because he was hogging too much airtime from the hosts, he ends up at 1010 because he's best friends with the Sports Chix producer, now he gets to be sacrificed to the great Big Dog Ratings Machine.

Mike & The Mad Dog were really growing on me, it was fun to listen to them do interviews with New York coaches and GMs like Joe Torre or Omar Minaya and just crucify them on-air and actually ask them tough questions, a real departure from Duemig and Ron & Ian, who have their lips permanently welded to the butts of Jay Feaster and Bruce Allen.

Why would WQYK give the Tampa radio market five hours of someone who when I hear him I think of WHBO 1470. WHBO is a low watt and cheap talent station. WQYK owns one of WHBO's worst discards. Bobby Fenton, the best in Tampa Bay sportsradio. Not

That pretty much sums it up for 1010...The sports that isn't good enough for WHBO, which pretty much sucks to begin with.

There are some internal things going on over at the Hooters' camp. It is possible that the Original owners who are the backers of the Sports Chicks may be selling their interest in the units they continue to own and their promotional company for Hooters' national. If this happens, the Chicks could lose the financial backing that keeps them on the air and 1010 afloat.

What will they change the format to this time?

Why? because this is more of what radio is all about now. Mostly inept people making stupid decisions....and there's more of same on the way... the FCC ruled YES on cross-ownership s the dumbed-down media gets dumber. Radio has turned into a PEZ DISPENSER.

No they probably won't go Spanish, but they will get somebody who wants to pump in their networks programming and CBS will be collecting a check instead of programming WQYK. If it goes Spanish it will Simulcast 92.5 FM....Then Bobby Fenton will be answering the phones over at Kroger Center, and vacation relief on the air.

We are all too aware of 1010's struggles. I have to give them credit for an effort at local programming. The other AM stations, sports or not, give us more and more syndicated feeds. I listen to Bobby as well as most other local hosts. No he is not the best, but he is far from the worst (can we spell Dan Sileo?). I hope 1010 gets it together, but fear it is time for yet another format change.
