Bobby Flay and Food Network to Part Ways After 27 Years

Maybe can go to Cooking Channel.
The Cooking Channel is actually a spinoff of the Food Network and both have the same parent companies (Discovery, Inc. and Nexstar Media). The Food Network mostly airs reality-type shows and competitions, while the Cooking Channel is more about traditional "cooking shows" and instruction. If Flay can't agree on a salary package with Food Network, I'm guessing the money he has in mind vs. what Cooking Channel could over would be even farther apart.

From what I've read elsewhere, he wants to spend more time with family. Perhaps he's just burned out with TV obligations, and needs to kick back for a while and focus on his ever-growing stable of restaurants, especially if it was the network that halted negotiations. Down the road, whenever he wants to do another show, remember that they brought Robert Irvine back after a two-year hiatus, even after the claim that he had allegedly fluffed his resume.

I nearly suggested something similar. Bobby Flay has a few handfuls of restaurants that he either owns or has a hand in, he's written more than a dozen books and seems to have more than enough to keep him busy. Also, when you think about it, he's really one of the last remaining Food Network "stars" from the era when he started. Others like Paula Deen, Emeril Lagasse, Andrew Zimmern, Alton Brown and Rachael Ray have all moved on. Part of me believes Flay most likely threw out a number and said if they can match that, he'd stay. If not, he's got plenty of other projects to tend to.

He also has owned several very successful racehorses in recent years and his face is a familiar one at the sport's top events. At this point, he doesn't need to do TV anymore.

Alton Brown still works on Food Network/Cooking Channel with Retooled Good Eats,Andrew Zimmerman still on both with Zimmerman List DYI this past Weekend and Destination's that might have new Exipsodes.

And there ya have it:
According to the insider, Flay had been in negotiations with the Food Network and was seeking a deal that would be above Guy Fieri's recent $80 million contract (which reportedly made the Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives host the highest-paid chef on cable TV).

"Bobby wanted a contract in the ballpark of $100 million," the source says.
