Bobby Jack Murphy gone from WAMZ

Not sure what happened but Bobby Jack is out at WAMZ after 17 years. He is a great talent. Perhaps he will show up on one of the Cox country stations. Good for Cox, bad for WAMZ.

Cox doesn't seem to have a track record of picking up former WAMZ staffers. Another great talent collecting too big of a paycheck. Wonder how much longer Terry Meiners will hang in there at CC?

People, for some reason, like Meiners in this town. I don't get it 'cause his show is about as funny as a root canal. Which means, he'll be the very last to go. I personally don't even listen to WHAS anymore. For local news in the car, it's WFPL. Then back to XM.

So there's no live DJ now in the morning on WAMZ? Way to go CC, you've taken the station back to 1979, with only Coyote still on. I don't believe Dick Braun began working the morning shift until 1982. Otherwise Bob Kingsley of "American County Countdown" fame back-announced the song titles. Check out the WAMZ page on John Quincy's Louisville radio page, especially the WNNS/WAMZ switch audio clip:

So very sad to see Bobby Jack go. He always seemed to be a great host on those live remotes for the Crusade. Gee, it IS only 3 months til Christmas, and down go more employees! Helen Mays must be getting an early start on her Christmas shopping! Just how many more of these radio properties are you gonna gut in this town??

The tendency is usually to blame the big evil CC corporation, but sometimes the real story is more complicated. I've heard BJ is having some financial troubles -- he and the wife were spending money extravagantly, throwing lots of money at family and friends, and is now behind on the mortgage. Idiot decided to cash out his retirement by quitting. Now what's gonna happen when the bank he's a spokesman for finds out about his bad financial management?

Hey, welcome to Radio-Info.com, Colt. So nice of you to create an account to trash a good guy with your first post ever.

Thanks for your plethora of personal Bobby Jack stuff that, if true, nobody is happy to hear.

Calling all moderators......

It looks like "Colt" is going out of his way to make Bobby Jack look bad. It is unfortuante that someone like Bobby Jack who is a great person, great family man, and was a dedicated employee to WAMZ, could be the victim of a smear campaign by some anonymous ass. Could it be that Colt is a Clear Channel employee, who has grown tired of explaining why the company has pissed away so much good will in the past 10 years?

CC didn't force BJ out. Everyone tried their best to get him to stay-- from the top to the bottom. He's just dealing with some issues that are complicated.

Thanks, Scoop. With how big a pay cut? You got the scoop on that?

Yes, I do, all knowing Cox engineer but we don't reveal those details in forums such as these. Besides, there was no pay cut, the contract was healthy. CC can have the gun pointed at them for many things they've done wrong, but not this situation. It's very complicated-- bizarre would be an adequate word as a matter of fact. BJ's situation just required more than anyone would be able to take care of and it couldn't be overcome. He left against the advice and wishes of many people, but he thought it was the right thing to do. Many of us care greatly for him and just hope that it all works out well as we continue to support him in whatever he does.

He was the morning host for 17 years, but he has been with WAMZ much longer than that. He did middays prior to Dickie Braun's retirement and (if I remember correctly) did nights prior to that.

No, I don't work for CC, in fact I think the company has destroyed local programming, Terry Meiners is a sycophantic ass, and I can't remember the last time I listened to WHAS. That being said, anyone who criticizes CC just because it's big and bad -- and then shops at Wal-mart (or K-Mart or Target, etc.) instead of locally-owned mom-and-pop stores is a hypocrite, plain and simple.

But I also know folks who BJM just left in the lurch at the beginning of the critical fall ratings period, and it just doesn't jive with all the teabagging being posted here about what a great guy he is. Someone else seems to have posted -- in a more charitable light, I grant you -- about BJ's issues. Some of you don't want to hear bad things about the guy EVEN IF they're true, but only want to hear bad about CC, even if they're not. CC is guilty of lots of things, and I'm not here to defend their whole record. But in this case, they're not at fault, and as someone else said, they tried getting him to stay.
