Bobby Ramos Makes 'Mega' Move To Houston

From R&R:

KPRR (Power 102)/El Paso PD/morning host Bobby Ramos has been named PD for Clear Channel's Latin Urban KLOL (Mega 101)/Houston, replacing Al Fuentes. Ramos begins his new duties on Jan. 9, 2006. "This is difficult format to find a PD for, because there are so few stations doing it," CC/Houston Regional VP/Programming Ken Charles tells R&R. "But Bobby brings a knowledge of the format because of his battles in El Paso, a passion for the music, and a track record of success. He is the right PD for this unique opportunity."

So much for the rumors about Mega flipping formats.

Yep... No format changes... Just bigger and better things to come for Mega 101!!!

One wonders why a format implementation that has dropped revenue by 75% and has not shown any growth is getting this attention. CCU apparently has a very long range goal for this, because in none of the 4 markets that the format is on their stations are they billing even close to the revenues of the former format and the ratings are nothing spectacular. They should look at how SBS´s Bill Tanner did in LA with his implementation of the format, which has been far more successful.

When starting a new business or venture - don't you always have long range goals? Of course they would have lost 75% of business from Rock... Any station would drop the same swapping English to Spanish.

Mega is new - still needs time and some programming tweaks here and there...

CC will get it right... Don't hate the man, hate the game... (that's called business).

Also, what's up with the CC Austin Christian station???

Listen to what HectikG81 has to say. Rock is dead, I've been singing that line for over a year. Hurban is serving an audience that was ignored by radio before. Congrats to CC for stepping up, "and giving the underserved some programming."

More importantly, "this nascent audience is an untapped market that advertisers crave." You can tell that untapped money, "Come to Daddy Yankee!"

Sounds like CC made a great move with the new prescient hire. Bravo once again. The format is doing well and can only be 'mas bueno' in 2006.

After listening to the scintillating MEGA 101, I know what it is like to be "Latino y Proud!"

And let me tell you, "The River" is flowing in Austin and it sounds refreshing.

In all four CC Hurban markets, they have not been able to build billing. Miami is a year old, and the billing is 25% of the former rock station,a nd not growing. ABQ has no momentum, and Denver is off and flat.

The numbers are really wobbly, and it looks like major changes have to be done.

One thing is to have a plan. Another is to change it when it goes wrong.

12-24 stations are ¨new¨ for about 90 days. Mega is mature. It needs some kind of fix.

keep your bags packed bobby ....

is this the 3rd or 4th pd this year..

Rock is not dead. Some rock stations may be dead, but rock is just fine. In many markets, however, there were too many stations in the format.

No, "Hurban" is really a reggaetón format with CCU´s own name. Reggaetón is simply the newest incarnation of Spanish pop, but with strong appeal to multilingual Hispanics.

The audience was not ignored. but it was served by different music. Any 12-24 music format is very volatile musically. A decade ago, regional Mexican was the 18-24 format and music of choice. That music and format matured, and something new has come in that is the trend setting music. It does not take a genious to figger' out.

They were not underserved. They were just given a new alternative.

The format has no advertiser appeal. AQH persons have advertiser appeal. In fact, Daddy Yankee has negative advertiser appeal.

There is no advertiser appeal for 12-24 Hispanics. Hispanic ad buys are against 18-49 and 25-49, not 12-24. So Hurban or whatever it is called is a very tough sell for the moment.

That would be nice.

Changing management usually indicates a failure to reach sales goals or maintain operational metrics.
Interesting spin there.

Merry Christmas! If anyone has a problem with that, feel free to work all weekend.

I hear the Farmington NM cluster has an opening for CM / Obit reader.
Perhaps you can hail the praises of Deb Nava's monodrone.

Pink slips, they are a printin!

Re: keep your bags packed bobby ....

I dont know the guy personally but I have known people who know him. I have heard numberous good things about him so kindly lay off the bashing. Weather he is the 3rd 4th or 1200th PD this year is irrelevant, he will prove all non-believers wrong. Word is Clear Channel is backing him up with incredible force.

We're not bashing him personally.
Not at all.

Yes, it does matter if the first one didn't make it.
Neither will the 3rd, 4th or 1200th PD.
The concept is flawed. The cash cow turned out a bit dry.
Let's change the milker.

Word is BS.
The same "Force" the last PD got?
What type of force?
Will he be attached to a hydraulic ram?
