Bogalusa looses a heritage station

Back in the day (ever heard that?) that was a hot sounding station,when Ron Hunter and his family had it.Many a young jock went thru those doors.I started when i was 16.It was a good stepping stone to other markets including New Orleans.Bob Mitchell and i worked there for a few years.Skip Wilkerson use to come in and do vacation fill in and prod.What a voice!! Don't know why they never tried to get a translator,one was available,but Bogalusa ain't what it use to be.(Ray Fisher)..
Back in the day, Yes I heard that. I was never able to recive WIKC down the bayou but we had the Mighty 690, 1060am WNOE and 1490 KJIN for am top 40/ rock. According to the letter Timberlands claimed depressed finacial conditions in Bogalousa is also the problem. It is still a shame to loose a station that still has potential.
Well the current owner wasn't a radio type.Bogalusa at one time was a 25k people,i think it's down to like 14k last time i checked.Dowdy just walked a translator out of there. After Ron's family unloaded it,the station and billing went south quick.But it was fun place to cut your teeth.We had several move on to the Mighty 690 including myself,Bob Mitchell, Sy Jenkins and others.We may have been known as the Bogalusa flash
..I will never forget the day i walked in the station and there was a pay phone in the control room,seems jocks were running up the phone bill.When i got back to TIX i told Mitchell,he called the number while on his morning show,the jock that answered never had a clue.Mitchell closed with thanks for talking woth me,gonna send you a roll of quarters!!
