Bogus Survey?

This morning I was called and asked what my favorite radio station was. I told them, and then they pressed me for a second fav station and I told them as well. I guess I said the wrong stations because they then cut short the "survey" and asked "what about KUBE93 or Star 101.5" and I said I don't really listen to those stations and the survey was abruptly cut short. What was supposed to take "a couple of minutes" took less than 30 seconds.

What kind of a radio survey was that? I feel cheated. :-\

Well, if this person who claims to be a survey taker didn't identify himself or herself, I'd just hang up. Sounds like some idiot is just being annoying on the phone.

More than likely they were pre-screening for callout research candidates. If you don't listen to the stations they're doing research for then obviously they'll cut the survey short.

The teaching moment from this: If you want to be part of a research study, next time a survey taker asks you if you listen to a certain station - SAY YES I DO!!!

Ok. I actually said that I "hated" Star 101.5 since they pressed me on it. I think that is so disengenous to first say you're doing a radio survey, and then chop my head off since I didn't have the right answer.

Of course, even if it was Arbitron calling I would have still gushed on my P1 station, which I work for, trying to skew the stats. Heh heh.

If you are currently working in the business and are contacted by Arbitron or another ratings service, you are supposed to disclose immediately that you work for the broadcast or media industry, disqualifying yourself from participation. If you should be so stupid as to give information, or as in Arbitron, participate in a PPM survey which could skew ratings to your employer, you could lose your job. Arbitron would probably blacklist the station and invalidate or disqualify the stations ratings for that period, costing your station much dinero. The same could be said if found out you worked for a station, yet listened to another.

My advice; if contacted, disclose that you work in the radio or TV business right away.

I for one am not laughing at your racist attempt at humor.

Would you be laughing if someone here stereotyped all country music fans as uneducated, inarticulate, pickup-driving, rednecks? I didn't think so.

Oh, and one last thing.. Just once try using some grammar, capital letters and punctuation in your posts.

He is not being racist, there are KUBE listeners of all races that dress and speak like that.

I'm guessing you haven't been to Summerjam or to a mall in say the last 5 years...

ringgggggggg: "HELLO", howdy, mr salvatori? "YES MAM", what is your favorite radio station? "YEE HAW" now, mr salvatori, we gonna git your ears tuned into some fine new country tunes we thinkin of addin' to our playlist, tell us what you think. "YEE HAW !!!!!!!" thanks for the advice and info FM steve, and SRP, now i wont feel cheated, when this phone call commences........I'm wateing, cell fone in hand, in my 1977 chevy pick-up truk, with my greasy, sweat stained truckers cap, my tight fittin' American made jeens, and my tucked in behind my belt, USA made pockit t-shert.

mr TVradio Guru, for one is not laughing at what he perceives as a racist attempt at humor. would I be laughing if somebody here stereotyped all country fans as uneducated, inarticulate, pickup drivin, rednecks? HELL yes! country people dont take themselves to seriously. we love to watch our characters embelished on hee-haw, and dukes of hazzard, and even love to watch the great comedians, like jerry clower, andy griffith, larry the cable guy, and jeff foxworthy make fun of us and our lifestyles. by the way, the late black country singer, stoney edwards, is better than 99% of the white pretty boy hat acts that pass off their over produced noise as country music on kpms. never heard of stoney edwards? look him up and get some country learnin' boy guru.

Ooh...the Guru vs. the truck driver...now that's a battle for ya. Get yer tickets folks, they're going fast...
