Bold Gold Continues to Grow

I happened to catch, two days ago, what I thought was stunting on WPSN 1590 Honesdale.
There were three country Christmas songs in a row and I thought that they were dumping Fox Sports and going country.

A pre-recorded spot by George Schmitt said that 1590 and 104.3 (what???) was going Headline News Network on December 7.

The news here is, once again, Bold Gold has managed to licence yet another translator, this time at 104.3. I did a little research and it is a 110 watt translator at about 110 feet which covers most of central Wayne County.

Personally I'm against FM translators, especially since this is a new one. I've been trying to figure if this translator was already in existance (but I can't recall it) and since WPCN 1590 would qualify to rebroadcast on it, that is why they are using it.......due to the new AM on FM translator rules.

Yes, I am for the rebroadcast for stations with limited signals, but WPCN does indeed serve Honesdale well night and day with 2500 watts day, 15 watts at night.

I'm not sure what Vince will be doing with WICK and WFBS which also broadcast Fox Sports.

I do know I like what Vince has done with the Honesdale/NYS stations....and the Scranton stations he picked up first (namely 104.9) He is a real businessman, he obviously knows what he is doing.

And I'm starting to loose count of his radio holdings too!!!

Good Job Vince!!!! (haven't worked there since 1995............have any openings?????) ;) ;)

Great to see someone growing. The cuts and slashes everywhere makes for an industry which isn't prone to local growth. Good for Bold Gold and good for The Duke. We have tons of talent in NEPA and someone smart enough to utilize them might be able to pull it off. Radio needs radio people not bean counters and not third generation newspaper guys.

Good, they can start by giving them a non-air production studio. That way we won't be treated to a client trying to voice a commercial over the John Tesh Show. Luckily there was no cursing. What a trainwreck, it needs to be put back on the tracks.

<< Hello, question. Who is Vince?>>

I think that refers to Vince Benedetto, President and General Manager of Bold Gold Media Group.

Has anyone listened to 104.3? All it is the audio feed from CNN (love it when they say "look at this video" - gee I can't, I'm listening to the radio ;D). Plus, the local news is in mono; sounds terrible on FM. If you want to do news right, listen to WILK, which came in #1 in the last ratings book and it is no wonder.

Thank you. Never heard of him. A local dude?

Very likely Tesh and his helpful household hints radio show never sounded as good.

I've said it here before about these guys and I will say it again. Don't get your hopes up. These guys just got lucky with The River and right now IMHO they are seriously underperforming. I honestly don't think they have the savvy to accidentally catch lightning in a bottle twice.
