Bone-headed National News Givers

Call it a disgust with those who refuse to pronounce properly the names of cities, people, et al, or simply call it a personal issue with the mangling of the location-names of my childhood, but, I have simply had it with the minority of national news givers who do both. Wolf Blitzer is the major offender, but, there are others.

For the last time:

>>begin rant here<<

The city is buh-LUX-ee. It is not now, nor ever has been, buh-LOX-ee. Jeez! Also, just down the I-10, the city is mo-BEEL. It is not now, nor has ever been, MO-beel. Criminey! (I'll forgive the mis-pronounciation of noo OR-lins as noo or-LEENS because many famous tunes use that pronounciation.)

So many of the French-originated and New Orleans-pronounced names in Louisiana have been likewise mangled. If you don't know how Des Allemands, Terpsichore, Melpomene, Fauborg-Marigny, Prytania or other names are pronounced...either ASK or don't USE them at all.

I beg of any newscasters who profess to be professionals...use the proper pronounciations or just shut the f**k up. It'll do wonders for my blood-pressure and your credibility.

As someone from CHA-cag-A, IL-lee,noise (not Shi-COG-Oh, IL-i-noy)

I know how you feel

One local newscast I saw in Canada repeatedly referred to U.S. Highway 90 as Interstate Highway 90. I-90 is the main east-west artery across the American north, connecting Seattle, Chicago, Cleveland, and Boston. Doesn't go anywhere near New Orleans.

Mispronounce my state #33.

My fravorite mispronounce is Or-e-GONE. First of all as a native Oregonian, I am fed up with people mispronounce my state name. It is Or-E-gEn, not OR-e-GONE.
And also our river that runs from Eugene to Portland, the Willamette River, Will-lam-met, not Willa-met River.
