Bone Mornings

As Justin's posted mentioned below, according to their web site, the Bone will be launching the Free Beer and Hot Wings Show. My guess is that this show was to be the show all along but they chose to create some distance between it and Stern. Considering how well Infinity has done with the immediate replacements to Stern and the report about Stern's interest on Sirius waning, this may have been a smart move. Obviously this show still needs to do well on its own, but considering Portland is only a two book market, the fact that the ratings book does not begin for another couple of weeks makes this seem pretty smart considering no morning show in the market specifically targets this demo.

But it took Nassau until a few weeks ago to launch the morning show on their other Stern outlet, Pixy 103 on Cape Cod. To me, it appears that Nassau didn't really have a plan (or as other have speculated, perhaps considered launching a regional morning show but never went with it), but your perception could well be the case. If I've understood correctly, Free Beer is somewhat of a stereotypical classic rock morning show in syndication, while Stern's show was much more-so a talk station that aired on modern rock outlets. It will allow Free Beer to get a fresh start in the market.

(or, perhaps they were waiting to find out if Rover's show, which is now on WPXC, would see any success in the latest Arbitrons. Pulling 37th place in Rover's new home market of Chicago couldn't have impressed Nassau.)

It's too bad Nassau doesn't have enough confidence in their "Portland Programing People" to come up with an original idea for the market? But SILLY OLD ME...I forgot the Nassau corporate slogan: "originality in our programming is out....frugality in our budget is in!"
