Bone to continue?

Maybe 93.3 is not changing formats.Found this today on one of my voice jobs websites:Company KDBN 93.3 FMContact Name Jeff KPosted On 05/08/2006Deadline 05/30/2006Voice MaleLanguage EnglishApplication RadioFormat MP3 for audition, CD for finalJob Budget $100 - $250Hi,We are looking for a new voice talent for a rock based radio station here in Dallas, TX.If selected, you will be the new "voice of our station" and be on retainer for imaging work as needed. Please send your standard radio imaging demo.Thank you for your time, and I hope we get to work together. Thanks,Jeff

It was on Interactive Voices, a subscription site. But if you're interested in the job, why not just send it directly to the station?

Well, i'll guess i'll put up my ice skates, hell hasnt frozen over yet ;)

A new voice image, will not invoke a change. The budget appears low,so don't expect anything to really change for now.Why is Jeff K still there? When you clean house ,YOU CLEAN HOUSE.

That isnt negative, its honest. When you clean house in this business, you take the perverbal broom and chase all the rats off the ship. I think a total flush at the Bone is going to be the only way it gets direction and a real shot in this market.

Their playlist appears to be getting shorter and shorter. Soon as KERA TV showed the" Cream's" Reunion" for their pledge drove, all one could hear was "White Room"and "Cross Roads" in very short order. One could almost set their watch to when a certain song comes on as well.

Is there anyone on air besides Walton and Johnson? There is nobody else posted on their website.

Just the other day, I stopped at The Bone and heard Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55!".

The later that same day, that evening, I also heard that same song. Not a bad song, but, twice in the same day ! THat really Craptastic !

But looks like Dallas needs yet another station to be an outlet for the most obnoxious advertising on air. There are -no- guidelines for advertising on The Bone.
The will accept any adds, no matter how musically crappy they are.
It's that lack of any continuity, that allows them to accept just anything, no matter how grating it is to a Rock music fan.
You do see a station like WRR-FM with some idea about who their listeners are and what offends them and what doesn't.
That's the kind of care that I need any Rock station that I would listen to, to know about.

But I just don't see that happenin' here in Dallas. Juat no class at all.

Radio has always been a cash [*****]. Cash is KING. There are exceptions. Very few. Expect more [*****] on Cumulus.

[EDIT-vulgarity]

The price of crap is going up, and Cume-less has quite the corner on the market. Saying they stink is certainly an understatement.

I actually got to listen to the Bone's Morning show with "Walton & Johnson" for several mintues today. It was, entertainment meant, at it's zenith, for 10th Graders.... But not just any 10th Graders.... We're talking the BOTTOM of the Barrel Sophomores ! !

I remember what it was like to be in 10th Grade. I would have never thought that W&J's shtick was funny, or entertaining !

Dallas rock radio has lowered the bar, once again......

I take some pride in where I am from. But this kind of programming has got to go away.

Another Black Eye for Dallas Radio !

The Bone is in a tough position, and the current strategy is going to make it even tougher. They need to target men, in order to benefit from the Cowboys. However, their current approach seems like a poor version of ZPS. There are other Male musical positions which could take listeners from several of the other competitors, and maintain their own identity.

It makes me wonder why they'd mirror ZPS. ZPS is the firmly entrenched, heritage classic rocker of the market. Even if the Bone is wildly successful, they'll still be splitting a 2.5 share. There seems to be a whole other slice of Rock pie that's not being served. If you could take 40% ZPS, 25% Edge, and 35% of the old KEGL, you'd have a pretty good rock station.

You are exactly correct JohnQ.Doe. Your posted formula would make a lot of sense. Or, the other option would be to take a KBCO or KFOG approach, but I don't think Cumulus is smart enough to execute a delicate format such as AAA.

Cumulus owns KFOG -- it was one of the Susquehana properties picked up by Cumulus along with KDBN, KPLX, KLIF, and KTCK.

FYI, the other station you praised, KBCO, has been a Clear Channel property for years now...
