Bone TV Commercials

Tonight, while scanning channels on Television, as the Mavericks were on oxygen during halftime, I came across a commercial for "93.3 The Bone: The Rock of Texas" on the OLN -The Outdoor Life Network. The add for The Bone played samples from various rock bands. As each sample played, a big picture of an album cover from that band was splashed on the screen. I don't know who created this add, whether the music was pre-done, with specific station data thrown in over it, or, if the add was created exclusively for 93.3. Anyways, how hard is it to match the album with song that you're sampling. I don't know if --any-- of the samples matched the album cover that was splashed across the screen. I mean "how hard is that" ? ?They even threw up (get it -- threw up) a photo of "Walton & Johnson" -- How Embarassing....Then they mentioned that "They're The Cowboys Station"The add was shown for The Bones "target" audience...... Which would be those folks who would rather watch "WANTED: TED OR ALIVE", than a Professional Sports Championship Game. Sort of mixed signal there eh Cumuless ! !BTY, I think they should go ahead and change the station's slogan to:93.3 THE BONE - THE ROCK OF CORPORATE CONSULTANTS

You probably saw one of those made cheaply for local cable ads. OLN would not have done the ad,because of it being local.

Cheaply.... I don't know about that... the sound was good--- the visuals ere good---
They just failed to match the artist's album with the one song they were playing from each artist.

I feel, they could and should have done this.

It just seems queer that they didn't..

I don't know that it was necessary. You noticed the spot. You remember what it was for. Sounds like a good spot to me, especially if you tune in to see if that's what they actually play.

And you have to ask yourself if the song they're playing has an album cover that makes a good visual.
LEt's say, for example, that you're playing something from the White Album. Think a plain white cover makes a good visual on TV?
Not having seen the ad yet, I don't know what they're using, but if they're playing a song and there's an album cover that most people looking at would recognize as being by that band, isn't the connection made? Almost at a subliminal level?

How many people are going to catch that they're playing something from Led Zep 2 but showing the cover to 3? Or something from Born to run but showing the cover of Born in the USA? Sure some people are going to catch it, but then we're back to the old question. Do you program a station for the obsessives that listen 10 hours a day, or for the average listener that listens 10 hours a week?

Iths the way that the add featrued the album cover. I say, of you're going to slaph a cpver so prominently, then do your home work. There were no songs advertised by The Beatles. Sorry.

Will I listen to the station. You don't get it do yu. I do not and will not listen to "classic rock". I listen to the same albums, but with an "FM" mind, and not an "AM" one. That will always be the difference bewtween how I listen, and how your advertiser's target audience has been trained to listen.

The add, like the station, lack musical integrity. You can say I'm obsessed with music, but I don't listen for 10 hours a day. I'd say there are those who are obsesed with banality. You know who you are.
