Bongino

Yet the irony is that Bongino is NOT heard in NYC. Cumulus sold off WABC 770. So currently WABC only carries one Cumulus/Westwood One talk host, Mark Levin from 6 to 9pm. In Bongino's time slot, Noon - 3 p.m., WABC is running local hosts.

Bongino is heard in NYC's northern suburbs from 1230 WFAS, noon to 3pm. But its an all-digital stations. So only folks with an HD receiver can hear Bongino in the NYC area.

Rush was, mostly, popular because he was first an entertainer... not a political pundit. He did lots of things he learned in early Top 40 radio, like naming his producer Snerdly. His show was fun. Most talkers are not fun.
That's true, or at least it WAS true in Rush's early years. I was a big fan and a regular listener to his show on WABC and when he was first syndicated.

But that changed over time as he became more involved with the political right. His night in the Lincoln Bedroom might have been a turning point. The show evolved into a VERY political show without much humor.

The humor -- naming his producer Snerdly, "talent on loan from God," etc. -- grew old after a couple of decades. But habits are hard to break. Some people never get past longing for their high school days.

You could say the majority of talkers today are not fun, but there are are plenty who are. Vince Coglianese, Derick Hunter, Mark Simone, Jessy Kelly, Greg Kelly, John and Ken, Mike Opelka, Dan Mandis, James T. Harris, to name a few off the top of my head.

But it's easier to just keep doing what you've been doing, listening to Rush and Hannity, rather than to seek out new voices. Anecdotally, I find that many people think talk radio is (at least was) Rush, Hannity, Levin, Coast to Coast and perhaps a few others, but that's it.

There's a lot of great talk radio out there if you take the time to look for it. Unfortunately the industry makes that difficult by avoiding a universal platform -- but that's another subject. ;)

Seems to me all of the major groups are now on TuneIn, with the only exception being Audacy.

True, but that's a big exception.

Wouldn't it be nice if all stations were available on one platform? To switch between WABC and WCBS, for example, you need to switch apps, then find the station. On the radio they're right near each other and just one click of a preset away.

At least now it's narrowed down to only two apps, both with pretty decent interfaces, so things seem to be moving in the right direction.

You could always count on Rush veering off into a side subject that wasn't political, like cameras, phones or computers. This was perfect to take the heat down. While I generally disagreed with his politics, this tact was genius.
Rush also loved music, as evidenced by the large collection of songs that he used as bumper music. He would also talk about some of his favorite songs.

If you're in NY. Because they share the use of a platform owned by the government, not a company.

If you use a smart speaker, it will make that same adjustment for you.

Keep in mind, all of the radio apps are free. Not so with the video apps or some music streaming apps.

Did you listen to him in recent years? After he lost his hearing and couldn't appreciate music things changed.

So why not the same convenience for those who would prefer not to bark commands at a virtual servant?

Speak to the Minister of Radio about it.

I just spent an hour trying to find an OTT digital TV channel on my various systems, through cable, FireTV, and other virtual services. It's not easy, and that's what you get in a country that requires competition and attacks monopoly.

I listened mainly during the early 2000s. Back then, he had a half-hour-long pre-show on his website in which he played some of his favorite songs.

Well that depends on the media market too in some cities. In Washington D.C., Seattle, Sacramento and San Francisco the current Talk Radio Audience would mean listening to NPR News/Talk affiliate like KQED-FM, KUOW, KXJZ and WAMU-FM.

And of course most here know he started in radio as a top 40 Dj in Missouri.
And Of Course Rush became political once he arrived in Sacramento on KFBK-AM as Morton Downey's replacement.

But Back to Bongino its either a ploy get more air time on Fox News prime time or be a panelist on Tucker Carlson's show.

His hearing was restored with the cochlear implant that Dr. Derebery at the House Ear Institute in LA installed. People with the implant can enjoy music, but it is just a slightly different experience.

Current technology allows a reasonable appreciation of music, depending on the implant technology.

I think we can assume that Rush got the Rolls Royce of the implant alternatives.

I remember Rush demonstrating how the first cochlear implant he had sounded.....it was terrible and no way someone could appreciate music. Things have improved very much. I asked a friend who runs a music-oriented Facebook group if he was able to enjoy music at all or is it just one's brain filling it in. He said it's the best music experience ever, like high fidelity music being fed directly to his brain.

Remember, Rush went to the House Institute because they had the most advanced developments in that area. People from all over the world went there, and it was not unusual to see patients from Arab nations in "full sheik" dress with bodyguards and assistants there; Dr. Derebery's office had a map with pins in it showing patients from about 90 different countries who would come in for hearing and allergy treatment (allergies are a very common cause of hearing loss and I was a patient of the same doctor for "life threatening" allergies due to the dreadful air in LA).

Rush obviously got a chance to have the best technology "installed".

The latest with Bongino? He's still off the air for another Monday, with Cumulus - Westwood One running "Best of." According to Inside Radio, Bongino now says he's developing "alternate plans." He says it's getting "really ugly" with Cumulus. "There's an easy way out of this" but Cumulus is "refusing to take it." He sounds like he won't go back on his radio show if Cumulus doesn't back down from its vaccine mandate.

Wow, what a fool! The Supreme Court just refused to intervene in a Maine mandate that its health care workers must be vaccinated. During a pandemic that's killed five million people worldwide, large employers have the right to require employees to be vaccinated. Every child entering kindergarten must have numerous vaccinations. Everyone who signs up for service in the U.S. military must have even more vaccinations against tropical diseases. And what's even crazier is that Bongino IS vaccinated due to other health issues he has.

How can a freshman syndicated talk show host who grabbed the golden ring of replacing Rush Limbaugh on Cumulus-owned stations think he can dictate policy to his employers? And jeopardize his own show? With rerun shows, he's hurting the ratings of KABC LA, WLS Chicago, KSFO San Francisco, WBAP Dallas, WMAL Washington and WJR Detroit, among Cumulus' talk stations in the large markets, as well as dozens of medium to small market stations.

Perhaps someone as big as Rush could have moved a giant corporation and employer to slightly modify a company policy. But certainly not somebody who just started six months ago.

"All you need to do is allow unvaxxed people to cough, hack and spit infected droplets on the mic where a cancer survivor works and will use it next and we're fine., If another employee is a lefty and they die so much the better. MAGA MAGA MAGA.

Yes, Bongino thinks he has Limbaugh's clout. I think my local News/Talker did just fine filling the 3 hours with local hosts between the time they dropped Dead Rush and picked up Bongino
