Bonneville?

What can anyone tell me about Bonneville, it's place in the market, people in their building, management etc. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you are going to work for them put everything writing.. everything, your reqirements and exactly what they require from you..

1) Bonneville - gas guzzling Pontiac

2) Market Rank - claims to be Arbitron Rated #1, but we know better

3) People - Men In Secret Underwear...plus GAYDOS

4) Mgt - see above (except GAYDOS)

Good Luck!

They purport to be values-driven... I was no longer working at KTAR when Bonneville took over, so I cannot attest to how their philosophy is administered, first-hand. But the way several long-time on-air employees were let go causes us to question the co's mission. (No...I am not referring to the mandatory 2-year mission... ;)

The GM is called VP of Marketing and his expertise is sales, which I find telling. The local VP is Erik Hellum.

Are you local? Don't know how much you know about the three, local Bonneville-owned stations housed in the same building:
KMVP 860 AM
KPKX 98.7 FM
KTAR 620 AM

KTAR news/talk was THE long-time leader of all stations, though it has slipped of late.
Russ Hill, former news guy with the station, was brought back, recently, as PD. Nostalgia wafts through the airwaves as he seems to be bringing the old guard personalities back behind the mike.
News Director just came on board after many years with competitor. Mike Anthony is a nice guy.
In September, 620 AM will be simulcast on 92.3 FM -- a mega-coup that we all are eager to see play out.

KPKX, The Peak, 98.7, was always solid (as KKLT), but since PD Joel Gray has played with the programming, ratings have improved remarkably and have remained relatively steady. Both KTAR and KPXK have ranked in (or near) the top ten.

KMVP is the sports station.

Nice, two-story building in a nice, uptown area. Administration and sales downstairs with studios upstairs.
Overall, friendly people. Some of the same folks have been there--at all three stations--for many years.

It's been my experience, more often than not, that GM's are usually promoted from GSM's. Perhaps I'm skewed - Is it normal for GM's to come from Programming? I know it's very rare that GM's come from Marketing Directors.

Just what are these "we're number one" promos all about anyway?

There is no disclaimer (that I can discern anyway) as to what
Arby Tron breakout KT'R is using to claim #1 status.

Hey PDISU--come clean now, what is the demo?
75+ adults who own their own home, eat a 4:00pm dinner at Luby's
and drive a Buick with four ventaports? OK, that takes care of the
9-noon slot, now how do you rank the rest of the day?

GMs that come from programming are extremely rare. Almost all come from the sales side, and the good ones have learned to respect and nurture product along the way. I can only think or one or two GMs out of hundreds whose backgrounds I know who come from programming.

Those who come from programming generally have spent a long time selling before going to management. A jock decides he wants to make more, trys and likes sales, and eventually becomes GM. But PD directly to GM is very very rare.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I had a job lead and was looking for research on the group. Again many thanks to all who replied
Kind Regards

Just like the promo for Live Talk, Local Voices All Day - misleading. But it amazes Nurse Jeff and me that more posters have an issue with Joe Crummey doing his show from L.A. than the misleading promos on KT'R. The Evil One NEVER said he was doing his show live from Phoenix when he's not...yet The Men In Secret Underwear continue to run syndicated talk shows during the day on weekends and promote their #1 status...what kind of Core Values are these? ???

Having left the big 620 to devote full time to programming AZ-TV more than two years ago, I think I can be relatively bias-free on this one:

KTAR is referring to their cume. The total number of listeners who tune in during the course of a week. No, ad buyers don't use that figure, but without it, TSL (time spent listening) can only drive your share numbers so far. And it is a more valuable benchmark than it is given credit for. It tells how many people make the conscious choice to tune in. They're voting for you, hoping they'll get what they tuned in for. Being number one in cume shows that people haven't given up on KTAR, that they're expecting something. It's up to Russ to deliver that and make that translate into TSL and higher shares in attractive demos.

Allow Nurse Jeff and me to offer our analysis, O master of the Ultra High Frequency. A cume listener is nothing more than a sampler hoping to catch something of interest. Some Cumers are in the demos advertisers want, but in the case of KT'R there are a lot of fartius antiquitis Cumers hoping the station goes back to what made them popular decades ago. They eventually go away or horizontal. Nice to have a big cume...but even nicer to have a decent cume in the demos and a killer TSL. Anyway, buys aren't based on cume...The Men In Secret Underwear do it to psych their employees and demoralize KFYI. 5~Fifty is adrift and TMISU know it.
