Bonneville - ???????

I do admit to some confusion about the things Bonneville Brdcstng is doing.

TBTL - Too Bad to listen

Dorrie - Used to be pretty good, now waaay to right wing for me. Limbaugh is about the same, but more entertaining. I don't like listening to either anymore. (I never did like Rush)

Dave - More diversity, more like KIRO of old as I remember it. But that is going back to the days of Jim French. Would a show like Jim French used to do still sell in this market - no one I know of is doing anything like it.

And one other thing that may not be such a big thing, but it sure confuses the heck out of me. As a former broadcaster who grew up and became an attorney, (which pays much better btw) I just don't get the logic of this decision.

Sunday morning, traditionally not a big time for ratings or sales. OK, I accept that. My first job at 14 was board oping playing "Casey Kasem's American Top 40"- they were distributed on 33-1/3 rpm vinyl records - remember those? (I still have some, cause they always got tossed and I kept some. I wonder what they are worth now?) Anyway ...

Bonneville, with both KIRO and KTTH. Sunday morning, KTTH airs "Legaline" with Bob Pittman, a local, well known attorney. He has frequent guests, also local. LOCAL, LOCAL, LOCAL. LOCAL. Always giving pertinent LOCAL information. And did I mention LOCAL - you get the idea.

KIRO dumps good LOCAL talk shows recently and now air "Mankowitz on the Law", a syndicated program produced in LA, with a California attorney hosting at the same time as "Legaline" is live in their own studios. NOT local, NOT local, NOT local. And that is especially important with legal information. The laws are different here than in California. Not radically so, but enough that if you are going to give legal information, it needs to be LOCAL.

More confusing is that they are paying for both - so why not put the LOCAL program on the traditionally LOCAL powerhouse, instead of the peanut whistle signal at 770? "Legaline" started on KIRO years ago, btw. It was on KIRO for over ten years before Entercom switched it to KTTH.

Am I missing something? Is there a sound radio bidness reason to go with a syndicated show on the big signal while putting the live, LOCAL program on a much smaller signal?

I thought I understood the economics of radio, but this just does not make sense. Any ideas why they do this?
