Bonnie Hammer Steps Down As President Of SCI FI

I'm hoping that this might potentially mean SCI FI will actually
resemble a channel devoted to science fiction. Then again, the new
guy's reporting to her, so it's more likely nothing will change.

I'm just glad she's no longer president; if, with David Howe, as
president, SCI FI adds at least 10% more science fiction programming,
that's more than the channel's aired in eons. We'll see, via perousing
the schedules in the coming months, whether or not Howe's really
running the ship or if Hammer's exerting her power, despite the
statement that going forward her involvement with SCI FI will be more
than distant.

I just really wish another conglomerate (Time Warner, Viacom, Sony, et
al) would see the viable niche that is science fiction and devote a
channel to it; they could even cast aspersions on NBC Universal's SCI
FI, touting how they're the real thing versus the in-name only
abomination that SCI FI is.

I really admire Canada's science fiction channel, SPACE: The
Imagination Station.

Contrary to what Hammer and her minions believe, SPACE has proven that they can market and program a science fiction channel and retain advertising and ratings without resorting to lowest common denominator programming sensibilities (i.e. the "throw it against the wall and see what sticks" mentality" SCI FI has).

I think something along the lines of SPACE would really resonate with
viewers (and advertisers) here.

Dave Howe flies to top of SCI FI
Hammer steps back from day-to-day control
By JOSEF ADALIAN

Dave Howe has been beamed up to prexy of SCI FI with longtime SCI FI chief Bonnie Hammer stepping back from day-to-day control of the channel she helped build into a basic cable powerhouse.

[EDIT]

Hammer will still be involved in SCI FI, but she made it clear that the network was now Howe's to run.

[EDIT]

While SCI FI is now squarely Howe's baby, he said he planned on continuing to work closely with Hammer.

"She will remain my boss, and she'll also be a key adviser and mentor," he said.

I wonder how this will affect WWE and ECW when the renewal comes up later this year.
