Like I said 3 months ago when the spring book was released, Sunny 105.9 is a flash-in-the-pan station that is improperly programmed and unfocused on what the classic hits format is all about.
I'll say it again, bring in a good programmer with a track record and make a couple of talent changes. Of course, that will never happen with who's in the market manager chair. He's got it all figured out!
Very good point mediawatch22. I bet that if the PD of WTKS read your post , he or she would probably say to themeselves, "Hmmmm, maybe to bring up the ratings at WTKS maybe I should making talent changes, uhhh, wait a minute, besides my Midday guy, there IS NO TALENT at my station!!!!!!!!
i loved WTKS when stern was on in the morning, then ed tyll, phillips - with ms. b and drew garabo for a while, russ and bo at night, passion phones/love lines and then drew took overnights with mandy. then drew did the news thang with carol dedman.
i used to listen to the real music weekends too when they had erik dennison, fluffy the gay dj, kevin walsh, bledsoe, laila.......i forget the rest......
I think that the first sign of crap was when Stern left, but ever since Sexy Savannah left the monsters I have found the station almost entirely UNLISTENABLE......
On the other hand, does anybody ever know what the hell ever happened to the guys that used to host the night show that was on about two years ago??????...I cannot recall the name of the show, but it was actually pretty good....I think the jocks were called "Jay Dog and Heffe'" or something?????
What ever happend to those guys!!!!!!!.....They were a hell of alot better than Philips and that crap that is on in the mornings...
That was in fact "the Hideout" with El Heffe and J Dubbs. Here's a piece we ran on www.cflradio.net back in April.
4-16-08 Remember "The Hideout" with El Heffe (Dro Hinojosa) and co-host J Dubbs that ran on WTKS-FM 104.1 for a bit less than a year? Well, El Heffe has been named Program Director at Genesis Communications' talker, WWBA-AM 1040 and Sports Radio WHBO-AM 1470 in Tampa. He will also host "Next!", a weekday show from 9AM-10AM on WWBA, counting down Tampa's Top Five Stories of the Day.
I have nothing on J Dubbs, though. Lex and Terry (on delay) ran in the slot until "Tuddle Talk" and of course now Buckethead.
The poster for the show was a big, blood-shot eyeball...
Good Stuff....
They should bring it back...
On the topic of book results, how did 1059 do??????
I hope that station does well, I have found myself listening to it even more and more. It reminds me of a time when one could listen to top 40 radio and hear REAL music...
They need to play "American Top 40 The Seventies " or "American Top 40 The Eighties" like 106.1 does out of Tulsa...
It is a real hoot to hear Casey Kasem talk about Pink Floyd and AC/DC.....
q105 in tampa - cbs station that is basically Sunny 1059 for tampa, they play 'tampa bay's greatest' hits - they actually play the old casey kasem shows from 8-11 on sunday mornings. This week, november 8, 1975.
it is a hoot, i heard it a few weeks back and casey gave a shout out to WLOF, Channel 95, orlando florida....
