Boom! We're getting classic hip hop...

Pardon me, I got lost along the way.

91-7 on 8.5? I must need to fire up the Zenith and rescan the converter.

As for the needed translator, I agree, but find me one in this metro (that's not got to be moved in from elsewhere) other than K236AR and K291CE, both of which cover many of the same areas KROI does, to a lesser degree. That doesn't do much for us northside dwellers, at all.

Yeah, Purple. 91.7 has been on 8.5 for awhile now. While you don't have much radio on leased TV subchannels in Texas, this is quite common up and down the east coast. In Houston, you can rent a TV subchannel for about $2500 a month, even less is you agree to an extended lease. At this price, however, you're getting a subchannel slice of a figurative "pie" that's been cut up so much the video quality is horrible -- the pixilation is more annoying than snow used to be on analog. If you are just using audio, however, its pretty good. A good while back, I tried to convince Chuck at Salem that putting 1070 The Answer on a leased subchannel would be a good -- and relatively inexpensive -- way to promote the station and Sam Malone. Their studio is already set up for video. Check it out...... http://youtu.be/FvyMACUwph8 ......If they spent a little money and leased a subchannel, they'd gain a new audience (e.g., the average person who frowns and asks "what's that?" when you mention the AM radio band) as well as additional income from selling video ad slots. Chuck said his GM wouldn't go for it...

Since there is a really low chance 92.1 will ever be able to get a 10k to 20k watt power increase or a translator in the Woodlands. Here is a something they might be able to do that will help people on the far west and and north sides of town be able to listen to the station rent a tv sub channel and the run there station on it like 91.7 does on 8.5

Radio-One can only own translators inside the 60dbU service contour....and the 1mV/60dbU is south of Gunspoint...it barely cross the north Beltway at Hardy tollroad and arcs east while staying north of 8...so any translator that would extend their signal MUST be owned by another party and have no connection to RO......As to adding KVST in a buy, KVST does not put a 60dbu south of the Woodlands (not even to the I45/Hardy toll road split)..Personally I thought RO should have kept 92.1 on the 288 tower at 100KW ERP..only 1000ft but stronger ERP and that means better building penetration..(They kept the site as a backup but its licensed at 22KW)

They play way to many album version of tracks where the have to censor 8 to 15 words I hate this. They played a Master P album version today and censored 15 to 20 words that is just lame. 9 out of 10 of these albums version they play there are radio versions. They need to sign up to a MP3 record pool with classic rap hiphopand rnb tracks that have radio version

They could, of course, put the format on the HD2 of either of their bigger signals and then put the HD2 on a translator to cover the northern areas better.

Good point David....they have 102.1 which is a full power C on Sr Road...BUT the problem is finding a translator available on the north side that may sell..Trying to get ONE decent signal would be rough but to really cover Spring/Woodlands/Conroe and Humble/Kingwood well they would need 2 (or maybe more). Given the way the band is packed they would not get a 250w at 300ft signal...Of course, if FM IBOC was more popular, they would not need 92.1 as the HD off 102.1 would cover better anyway..and in Houston, one or two of the HD2s can go for a week with no audio ;)

The as yet unbuilt K254BZ on 98.7 could be in play, although the FCC database indicates it will rebroadcast KKHT. Current transmitter coordinates place it just west of West Beltway 8 between Clay Road and Tanner. It is licensed to Fairbanks but might be able to move to the north (but not to the east.)

Hardly any room for translators here once all the LPFMs get on the air.

the 98.7 translator is licensed to Fairbanks; would have to file a COL change...the 60dbu of 98.5 would affect any move north...in fact, the two contours come damn close to each other now....but dont touch....no way 98.7 could be moved within range of B/W and I45 or any area north or east of that to past Conroe...Well, there goes listening to KLUV over the air in West Houston..98.5 being 3 channels away from anything on Sr Road really locks the segment between 97.9 and 99.1....unless well west or south of downtown

I thought I was the only KLUV listener in Houston. I wonder if there are any others. What surprises me is how well their HD works. Maybe half the time.

Jim Zippo is a friend of mine (also know Ron Chapman....remember one morning he walked in with a bathrobe on after a staff meeting at 7!) and I knew the CE who built the current KLUV transmitter (though he probably retired before HD came along...I helped his and KVIL's buildout and they helped me a little on KEGL's build)..Love to listen to their stream when I cant hear them over the air

Listened to Boom the first time while in Stinkadena for the day. Enjoyed listening, but lost signal on the way back to Beaumont. They need more power.

I need to go down to Houston and listen to this new station. I listen to some classic hip hop. I wonder if they played "I am a dope fiend" by Jazzie Red
