BOOMER...GET REAL !!!

I was watching BOOMER ESIASON's (morning co-host on 660AM WFAN) MSG show this afternoon. He states that MARK JACKSON should NOT get the head coaching job with the NY KNICKS because Jackson has no head coaching experience.

Hmmm. Old blue eyes/blonde hair former jock Esiason had no broadcasting experience when he walked into the MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL gig. He gets most of his jobs because he's a former jock. What a hyprocrite!

Memo to BOOMER: Please go do 2 years of sports talk radio in Toldeo/market 88 and then come back to the FAN. Pay your dues.

i think there is a difference between being a coach of a professional team than being on a radio. boomer, as you may or may not know, did a show with chris russo on westwood one for a couple of years. he also did a lot of tv gigs before monday night football. boomer works hard and has paid his dues. jackson has been a commentator for the knicks recently. that's the only thing on his resume. why do you think the yankees passed on don mattingly as manager. no experience.

Didn't Boomer do some stuff in Cincinnati prior to MNF? Pretty sure he did...

Boomer has paid his dues in various aspects of broadcasting, both radio & tv. It's not like WFAN hired Whoopie Goldberg, Mickey Dolenz, or David Lee Roth. And at least they had enough sense to pair him with a more experienced radio guy to take charge of the mechanics and formatics.

Did Boomer say that Jackson shouldn't get the Knicks job because he hadn't pay his dues, or did Boomer say that Jackson shouldn't get the Knicks job because right now, it's one of the most difficult positions in all of sports? You have a team of overpaid, non-performing brats, you have an owner who is out of his mind, and, oh yeah, it's the #1 media market in the world. Have you ever seen someone with no head coaching experience take that kind of spot?

Coaching is mostly about being able to manage and motivate others. Not about play strategy as much.
So it would be nice to at least coached some high school team before the NBA.

As for broadcasting, well, Boomer had been talking his entire life, he just needed to learn the format, which he has.
Besides, as long as he stayed away from Rutgers womens basketball, he was going to be fine.

HI from Cincinnati,,,,Boomer did work at WLW in a part-time status after his retirement and was constantly on as a guest with Chris Collinsworth during his fulltime radio gig between 1992 and 98. Frankly he sounded very good from day one with a strong presence on the mic....
