Boomer on the fan

i may have missed it but where was Charles McCord today?????

vacation......retired.......i hope not unceremoniously booted as he was a class act all through this imus business and, IMHO< was a big help to the multiple morning shows that were on during the interim period.....

According to David Hinckley's column in the Daily news, Chuck has left the station.

Perhaps McCord left in order to be available to return working with his long-time sidekick Don Imus. However it should be noted that it's September already and the rumor mills about Imus returning to the airwaves hasn't happened yet. Either that or McCord decided that it wasn't "fun" for him working at the FAN anymore with the current staff so he decided to just up and quit. Either way it's a shame he's not on the air anymore but I have a feeling you will be hearing him again in the near future.

I now live in Massachusetts and listening to Boomer in the morning even on computer is not an option at that time of the day but he does not seem like the morning drive type of guy to me.

OK. Now, as a radio professional, as somehow whose aircheck I've listened to, please explain to me how someone who has multiple TV gigs and worked as a very good analyst on Monday Night Football with Marv Albert is "unlistenable".

What I'm asking you to do is to quantify your statement. Is it personal preference? Is it jealousy? Why don't you start there without a three worded and vague opinion.

I have not listened to Boomer as regularly as I had listened to Imus, but that's more because of content. As far as performance, he sounds good and works well with Carton. I always thought Boomer was better-suited for TV until maybe the second year of "In the Huddle" with Mad Dog Russo. The two of them developed a better chamistry than the year before and Boomer's radio style came through.

Can he sustain a morning drive show? That remians to be seen, but what were the other choices at the time to replace Don Imus? Boomer has talent, a name and experience. Carton is a good broadcaster and kows the region well. It looks like a good foundation.

You're asking a guy named "Caveman" to elaborate?

It might be too much to ask, but you're right.

I have to say that I do enjoy Boomer and carton. I wasn't sure what to expect - but carton is bleezy and boomer seems to be enjoying himself. give it time. Boomer is a big star - he can only help wfan.

listening to the show..i can defently notice the difference in advertisers from when imus was on and now..no more live reads...and very few national spots...

Yeah, but the place holder shows didn't have live reads either.

It's really too early to criticize the show and early books. You need at least one book to pass before passing judgement on the show. They really need to find their groove.

Boring, monotone, not funny, not entertaining...UNLISTENABLE...simply my opinion, but it's just as valid as any one else's...

You do realize that Boomer's job isn't supposed to be the comedian - that's what Carton and Carlin are there for.

I mean, there are other facets of the show, but you seem to be zeroing on Boomer.

I'm zeroing in a the fact that I find the show unlistenable. I find the pacing of the show brutal and random, again, not funny, uninteresting, just hideous for a morning show, IMO. IF it works for you, great...sounds like a train-wreck to me. I don't recall saying it was Boomer's job to "be a comedian"...it is his job to be entertaining, IMO, as a morning show host, he isn't, not even close.

While I only listen for about 15 - 20 minutes a morning on the drive to the train station, I don't really dislike this show as much as I thought I would. I do however think that Boomer isn't as good as Carton. Carton probably could have done this show as the headliner surrounding himself with a good support team and the station would wind up with the same results.

They also should get to the phones more often then they do.

Again, just my opinion.
