Booming E-skip of WOCL into Wilmington NC

Started coming in about 12:30 yesterday April 26. Signal stayed stable for 5 hours.

There's no way that your report is e-skip. For one thing, the distance between you and WOCL in the Orlando market is about half of what you'd expect for e-skip. Secondly, e-skip (or, more properly, sporadic e) is a very tenuous thing that never lasts for very long.

What you heard was the result of tropospheric ducting, which is somewhat common in warm, humid weather and in coastal areas where there is a marine layer. Granted, that's a damn good catch for tropo - more typical is in the 100-200 mile range. But, it was tropo and not sporadic e.

Figured I'd write this before one of the engineering folks get a hold of you! ;)

Unfortunately, I did not afford the opportunity to scan the entire fm band. I was cleaning house and sulking about not having a working 6 meter radio. Upon one of the fades from WOCL, I did hear A couple of seconds of WBGG out of Miami Id itself. You are right BRNout, It was good old Tropo.

I'm on the other end in the Florida Panhandle and had your area stations in good at times this morning and yesterday morning and evening.
Foxy 99.1, Z-107.5, Magic 106.9, Coast 97.3, Talk Radio 107.1, 97.1 WYND, New Bern Stations, and others around North Carolina and far South Carolina. It was indeed a spectacular tropo opening.
