I have one of the original Griffin iTrip and it works very well. So well in fact while in a caravan of cars my friend can pick it up as long as he's less than a couple of car lengths behind me.
I haven't heard much good about the Kensington unit nor do I have one to crack open. I've reviewed a couple of these types of transmitters on my site and sometimes you get lucky and other times you get crummy. Just because there's a Part 15 spec for these FM modulators it doesn't mean the manufacturer comes all the way to the maximum allowed field strength.
I don't get why the FCC goes after manufacturers of Part 15 FM transmitters that are slightly over the legal limit but leaves the intentional pirate stations alone. Perhaps you should just get a 100 watt transmitter for your iPod, then the FCC will leave you alone.

LOL! I do have one of those actually (RVR).
But I think it would be a bit too much to use it in the car during the 5 hour holiday-drive I'm facing. However... ;D
I picked up a brandnew Kensington for $15 and was just wondering if somebody ever tried this.
