Boring Radio in NWA, will it end?

I'm sure glad I have XM because it is after Christmas and still the same boring radio. I am suprised that more people don't get XM or use the I-Pods and quit listening to radio that is just awful!! You can blame consultants who think they know everything and really don't. Just my 2 cents. I don't see it getting better. I will just continue to enjoy XM.

I think I can speak for many in the radio community in NWA in wishing you and your XM the very best. I hope you are happy together for many years....or until that comglomerate goes belly up.

And BTW...what's the deal with no spelling or grammatical errors? How dare you not give me fodder to give you a ration of @#$% over!!!! A pox on you!!!!!

Radioaircheck, better enjoy it while you can.

(from All Access)

SIRIUS XM faces an incredibly difficult road to survival in 2009, multiple media sources report. Almost a billion dollars of debt will mature by the end of the year; should the satcaster not be able to cover that debt, it faces bankruptcy.

Bass....buddy....you're slippin'! He DID have a misspelling in his first post (as usual) you missed! Although I did like your reply and agree wholeheartedly. Aircheck - we're all sick of your incessant bitching about NWA radio on this board and you are hereby forbidden from listening to ANY station in the area henceforth!!!! Here are the facts, pal;

1. PDs for major corps don't actually program - they execute the company's policies.
2. By and large, they're doing a fantastic job of that with the tools they have at hand.
3. Butler is, of course, not in the same boat and frankly the X is one of the better stations working on a
shoestring you'll ever encounter.

There. Said and done. No more moaning and groaning from you. Sit down, shut up and listen to your precious XM or go back to the Dallas boards and critique other people who've advanced much further in the business than you ever will.

I am glad to know Q Burns that you are perfect. I was just giving my opinion. If you think radio here is perfect, so be it! You can't forbid me from listening or doing anything for that matter. I will continue to listen to what ever I want. It is people like you that made me get out of the business!! You have to be one of those corporate suits that knows everything.

I am proud and humbled.

Not that my opinion matters to absolutely anyone, but I think this is about the best summary of radio in NWA that I've seen. The X is one of the better shoestring stations you'll ever see. Also, I was admittedly surprised with the job done for me by Clear Channel last summer. I approached them with a somewhat non-traditional pitch that strayed from the standard corporate radio for a couple of hours each week, and was shocked at how well they worked with me. Especially with their powerhouse KIX. In my opinion, there are probably only two stations worth spending money on in NWA. The X, because they "get it" at the local level, and KIX, because of their obvious powerhouse numbers (and they may be a little easier to work with than the stereotypical CC / Cumulus station, at least for my picky, non-traditional ass).

I do, however, believe that there will have to be a change in the mindset of FM radio for it not to completely loose its "punch." While the satellite boys may be in financial woes, people still have an abundance of (insert random portable music player here), as well as the ability to burn CD's on about any computer purchased in the last five or six years easy. If people want to hear the music they want to hear, they'll provide it for themselves. Not ALL people, but most. And a higher portion of the population as time progresses, because a higher portion will be comfortable with the technology. I hope that radio will return to being personality driven, because I believe that's where it will find most success in the years to come (and maybe because I enjoy it more as well). Lord knows an increasing portion of my ad dollars are going to less "conventional" means of advertising, though I'll admit I still believe cable holds some power as well.
