BosSportsMedia's Scott on WEEI's statement re: Callahan voice

http://www.bostonsportsmedia.com/archives/shots/entercom_breaks_silence_on_callahan.php

David Scott, Boston Sports Media watch, talks about Jason Wolfe's issued statement about the
continued absence of Gerry Callahan due to voice issues (the host's voice is hoarse, of course,
of course).
Wolfe: "As we said from the day he went in for the procedure, we have no specific timetable for his return, but we are very hopeful, as is he, that he'll be back on the air soon."

Scott: "The Wolfe words also do little to dispel the increasingly loud whispers that John Dennis and Callahan are not going to be renewed by Entercom. The duo's contract is thought to expire in the next several weeks."

Scott also says that word is Dale Arnold may not be asked to return as Bruins' voice on NESN but stay
tuned for more details.

Ha--Mark Schnyder of BostonRadioWatch has a good idea:

http://www.bostonradiowatch.com/

"What I don't get is why WEEI wouldn't use the big loudmouth Curt Schilling as Callahan's fill-in for the next couple weeks [he's on the disabled list]. Just write him a fat check for ALS and he's yours. WRKO could also use some help with Tom Finneran still failing to impress and not quite ready for drive time. Maybe they could somehow split-shift Schilling between the two stations."

The longer Callahan is gone, the less the public will look for--or care for--him to return. In my view, the Dennis & Callahan show is irretrievably broken. His leverage ebbs with every day gone away from the airwaves. As for John Dennis, his 'pork-boy' ways won't endear him to a return to TV news...which itself is an industry barely alive. What does a media hack DO when radio and TV and newspapers crumble around you? Become a door greeter at Wal-Mart? Many of these people proudly note their Connecticut School of Broadcasting 'degrees'...as if that's a ticket anywhere these days.

I wish Callahan well --unorthodox as that may be-- illness is a bitch.
That being said, I'd still contend that Redsox-Pats are the real two stars of this multi-station franchise. The hosts are fungible.

A Hibernian Bigot loses his voice. Yes, there is a God. Or if you are dyslexic: Yes, there is a Dog...

You just managed to lower yourself to his level, not to mention publicly denigrating those with a disability. Nice going.

Will Rogers never met you, did he?

Perhaps, you have forgotten Callahan's "Metco Gorrilla" remark when he had a voice. Again, maybe God is trying to tell him something.
But I don't wish him ill health.

Uh, Schilling is on the disabled list and with the team. He won't be around when they go on road trips.

Perhaps I haven't.

And, ladies and gentlemen, Casablanca sets a new world's record for backpedaling.

Perhaps you think the rest of us can't read, or don't know what "Yes, there is a God" means.
