Boston airchecks from 1993

These were taped on Saturday and Sunday on a weekend that a blizzard hit Boston and the Northeast. I think it was in March 1993.

Man I forgot how good WILD sounded back in the day. Makes it kind of depressing to hear it now. I wish someone would buy it and bring that sound back. I know wishful thinking.

it even sounded technically good back then. It was in AM stereo, and the mono sound was as good as mono AM could be.

Nowadays when they play music it's all muddy and muffled sounding, and you never know when only one stereo channel of the music will be fed to the mono signal at times.

Wow, I remember that blizzard! I was 10 years old at the time, and that particular weekend I had a hockey tournament in Gardner, MA. We got over 2 feet of snow that weekend, I remember. We were staying at a hotel for the tournament and we were stuck there til Monday if I remember correctly. It was one of the worst blizzards of the 90's. I also fondly remember listening to WZOU and Kiss 108 at that time. My favorite songs at the time: Snow - "Informer", Sting - "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" and Snap - "Rhythm As a Dancer". Great aircheck of WZOU right before they would flip to "Jam'n 94.5" which they still are today..

aww man, good memories, those were the days, I also checked out an old 1986 aircheck of WZOU on Youtube from your links.
Yes, WILD 1090am sounded great back then. Sky was one of the nicest women in radio. I got a chance to work with her briefly there after around 2001/2002. She's great
Besides the fact, this is what I'm saying, I know you all will get mad at me, but this is what Boston needs. If not an Urban AC station, then an AC station but focus more on New Urban AC music. WBOS 92.9 has the best signal in and around this Boston, Massachusetts area. They'd be perfect.
Thank you for the memories

at the current moment Bill O'Brian is a PD and on air personality for (Dial-Global) Radio Networks "AC" format. He made it big time.
I was in the 10th grade back in 1993, almost going in the 11th grade
Nice airchecks

ahhh, the waning days of the Zoooooo. I remember Sunny Jo made it so urban it was (IMHO) already destroyed from what it was. I remember he stripped 'Life is a Highway' by Tom Cochran off the air and it was replaced with more En Vogue. What a shame....

small correction, bill o'brien is the PD for Dial-Global's "Hot AC" format. Rick Brady handles their "AC."

love these airchecks! Thanks for sharing. It's great to remember the past while moving forward.

Yeah it was such a shame he helped change the station to a format, that it still dominates 17 YEARS LATER!

@Reelyreal, yes, sorry my mistake, I said that because I mostly listen to one of their affilate of their AC format
Yes, so sorry my mistake, very sorry
The AC affilate I listen to is Mystarradio.com. That's one of their affilates I listen to. Another affilate is Go Radio WGOHWUGO google it (Go Radio) it will be there, just look for the one that says "WGOHWUGO"

The HOT AC affilate, one of them I know of is that I listened to was Z 93 in Yuma, Arizona. This is the one that you can hear Bill O'Brian. Just look up the radio host name in Google, I'm sure you'll be able to find a few of their affilates

Anyways, sorry for the mistake

Sunny Joe was long gone by the time the flip to Jamn happened... back working at WILD.

yes, that's correct, he was working the Midday shift at W I L D 1090am right before his passing. So sad.
I used to skip class to listen to "The Morning Work Out" when Sunny Jo White and then when J J Wright took over. I used to skep class just to listen to that. I didn't skip class everyday, just a few times.
Anyways, good post
