BOSTON ARBITRON PPM RATINGS RESULTS - HOLIDAY 2009

To see the publicly released overall age 6+ PPM data for the Holiday 2009 period (Thu. 12/10/09-Wed. 1/6/10), go to the Boston Ratings Grid.

The next rating period is for January 2010 (Thu. 1/7/10-Wed. 2/3/10), with the publicly released overall age 6+ PPM data to be released on Thu. 2/25/10.

So what is the difference between December and Holiday period and is there any meaning to it? I am thinking of WEEI v. WBZ-FM, lots of fill-ins.

Nobody want to challenge lame @$$ Clear Channel ( kiss/jamn ) ? Amazing .

There are 13 reports during the year that are 4 weeks apiece, thus the extra "Holiday Report". The difference between the 2 reports (December & Holiday) are the survey dates. Those would have been:

December 2009 November 12 - December 9
Holiday 2009 December 10 - January 6

For a complete list of PPM Survey Schedules, go to: http://arbitron.com/home/surveysched.asp (Scroll down the page to see 2009/2010 PPM Survey Schedules; Diary Schedules no longer apply to the Boston market.)

Don't forget Rumba/Mia (even though Rumba's going away). BRING BACK POWER 104! Or CBS Radio should at least switch one of their stations to CHR. I only listen to Kiss 108 during Club Kiss or Weekend Blowout.

look at the cume for WODS from November to the Holiday book, HUGE HUGE HUGE increase

I still don't get it

And WMJX was actually down.

Of course, these are 12+ numbers, so for all we know, most of the people who preferred WODS's oldies/traditional-leaning mix might have been 45+ while the listeners to WMJX's more contemporary take on holiday music were mostly in the younger advertiser-friendly "money demographic," which I'm sure would make WMJX feel a lot better about its performance. The other possibility is that listeners of all ages were giving a thumbs-down to contemporary holiday music.

Some additions/corrections to the Boston Ratings Grid:

Station Share % Cume Format Owner

WBOS-FM 2.6
WCIB-FM 0.2 45,500 Classic Hits Qantum Communications
WCOD-FM 0.1 39,200 Hot AC Qantum Communications
WEVO-FM 0.1 22,800 N/T NH Public Radio
WFHN-FM 0.1 33,900 CHR Citadel

they are 6+ numbers IIRC,

I didn't look to see if Greater Media's WROR's bump in that period offset the WMJX loss of cume, but the WODS numbers over the 3 periods ( November, December, Holiday) were up 50%.

Did you notice the talk stations ( WRKO/WTTK) were down in the same time period, which I find strange because that was when the special election for the U.S. Senate seat was going full throttle, with the debates, etc, and the cumes were actually down.

One station that had lower numbers doing Christmas music was WPLM

Interesting stuff... anyone know how WAAF's numbers are doing in specific demos? They're noticeably down despite the demise of WBCN - are WAAF listeners jumping ship for WBZ-FM's sports talk?

Some could be leaving FM entirely for the iPod (for the comfort of hearing songs they love 100 percent of the time) or Internet/satellite radio (to experience a deeper selection of music and artists, commercial free).

During its own programming WEEI is running ads featuring Mike & Mike from ESPN radio. Is this because they aren't selling all its spots? How much of a hit for them is that? Is it a temporary thing because of the disappearance of the campaign ads?

As usual I'm confused. Dennis and Callahan spent four hours saying that they were number 1 this morning. The list on this thread has WEEI in 9th place. That's a pretty big difference. Obviously they are referring to a specific demographic. Where is that list published?

Everyone is number 1 on Radio . " Number One " is used way too much on radio. What if every Radio-info.com poster used the " Number One " marker ? Rapking "# 1 Radio-info.com poster " ( most post on the Urban board ). Maybe D&C is Number One in Scott Brown's House.

it isn't released to the public, but if you subscribe to the service you get the data broken down into demographics such as male, female, age range, average time listening, etc.. The data is considered proprietary and if you have ever seen it posted on here, it is for mere seconds as the moderators take it down as fast as they find it. 6+ is released to the public, but it is the 18-54 data that is normally what counts, as they are the
(or used to be the )people with money to spend.

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics, and anyone can claim anything if they twist the data to suit their needs.

Are they the number 1 sports show in Boston... probably, are they beating Matty, WBZ AM, or even Loren & Wally? Probably not

Sounds like there's some tension there? I didn't hear it as I've abandoned ship for the most part. It isn't what they say but the way they say it (at 6:10 in the AM).

Hub still isn't that impressive to me yet they got pretty close with a lineup that could have been better. Substitute for a few people and maybe they could have pulled even?
