Boston Arbitron Radio Ratings: Holiday 2011

I notice WPLM went down a bit.
I wonder if this has to do with them not doing the 12 days of Christmas this year ?

Christmas music rules !!

The easiest thing to take away from those numbers is that Magic and Kiss seemed to take the biggest hits from people migrating to Christmas stations, and WODS seemed to spike much higher than WROR. I didn't listen to either this holiday season - do they generally play the same Christmas music or does one lead more AC, oldies or current with their picks?

Kinda surprised to see WBZ-FM dip slightly, especially with the Patriots and Bruins both so hot. And WBUR? Wonder if WGBH's all-talk lineup is finally catching up, or maybe they just had a long fundraiser and some Christmas migration.

Down a little lower, looks like listener response to FNX's musical chairs morning show might have finally manifested itself.

WBZ-FM actually parlayed the Pats and B's to a one ratings point advantage over rival WEEI. WEEI dipped 0.1 ratings point in the holiday book.

wbz fm is doing better and better even with weei on fm now as well!! But i guess we shall see what happens when the sox are back!

The problem I noticed with WODS and WROR's Christmas music this year is that they tighted up the playlist so much that it seems like it is down to about 100 songs. I switched over to WWLI Lite 105, Always was a great sounding station, nicely processed for a major group owned facility these days.

Well, the "problem" made them #1...wish I had their problem. ;D

Smallest playlists of the most popular songs always wins. WABC knew it in the 60's and we all knew it in the 70's, 80's , 90's, 00's and now.

----Bob Bittner (of WJIB which has 6,500 song active playlist......) ;D
