Boston broadcasters are horrid at the basics

The same could be said about almost everything people do everyday. Call your doctor overnight. Call the gas company on a weekend. I did both of those, and they both told me to call 911. Consider how much live personal interaction has been replaced in your every day life. Banking at the ATM. Self checkout at the grocery store. Pumping your own gas, and the total lack of service at what were once service stations. It has become even more impersonalized, more automated during covid. Why should radio be exempt from everything else we do including other forms of media or other platforms for entertainment?
Oh, I don't know, maybe because lots of folks STILL rely on radio for up-to-date news and lively entertainment. I happen to like my news delivered fresh, not pre-recorded hours earlier, and I like live DJ patter about the music and other items of interest. But, hey, I probably live in an imaginary world, so allowing radio, often called "an intimate medium", to be canned and lifeless is not what I like.

How do you feel about sleep? Because the only time the news is pre-recorded is for a few hours when most people are sleeping. And there are live news people nearby if an actual emergency happens. But typically none ever does. Because most people are sleeping.

I like live DJ patter about the music and other items of interest.

There are formats where that happens. You may not happen to like the music, but there is a DJ and he engages in such things. For example Jonathan & Ayla do that kind of thing on WKLB. Radio was never a universal thing where all formats do the exact same thing. Different formats approach what they do differently.

And some people prefer the businesses they have responsibility for to be profitable, and they need to make choices that reflect how that can best happen in 2021. 🤷🏻‍♂️
