Boston Catholic Radio looking to expand

Some years ago the Archdiocese was hinting at buying AM 800 in Lawrence. Then came word of the pedophile priest
scandal(s). Sounds like they knew they would need to save money for settlements or legal fees...

WQOM now has competition from Relevant Radio 1150 another Catholic network. These networks are private non-profit outlets and receive no funding from the Archdiocese. Another Catholic group has a small FM on 89.3 in Shirley Mass., it does not have a very good signal and gets interference from the Portuguese pirate in Billerica also on 89.3.

Well Brad Bleidt has been out of jail for a few years now, maybe he can find a way to work his magic again
He has nothing to do with WQOM. He lost it and it was sold to the Catholic group that owns the frequency today.
Does General Tire still have influence with what iHeart does with 680?

What made you mention General Tire? They were ordered to shed their radio/TV assets decades ago. Just prior to iHeart, Entercom owned WRKO.

After Bleidt was arrested, prior owner Alex Langer bought it back, then a few years later he sold it to current owner Holy Family Communications.

Relevant Radio is the better of the catholic networks, and theres a few that exist. Relevant Radio is a bit lively and engaging, not dry and boring as milquetoast like EWTN, which is preaching to the choir. Relevant Radio also attracts people who arent fervent catholics who regularly practice the religion, of which I am one.

One thing's for sure, WQOM sure knows how to get their bumper stickers out there. The "Try God 1060 AM" stickers are by far the most popular radio station sticker on the road in the Boston area these days.

JFC do you not know sarcasm when you see it?

I know Bleidt is out of the radio business, last anyone heard of him he had a job at UMass Boston.

General Tire? A 50+ years ago event.... what's next the Channel 5 license being awarded to Boston Broadcasters Inc.?

Since EMF won't touch an AM station, that should leave quite a few available in the next few years for the rest of the Dolla-A-Holla crowd.

Educational Media Foundation continues to be shrewd and strategic. I used to think of them of one of the enemies of local Christian radio.

Not anymore though! I like the fact that even as all of their affiliates at satellite fed, they still keep an otherwise local presence in the markets that they serve!

That coupled with the principle of not going into debt when investing in a new station, gives me a very wide respect for them, in comparison to who their biggest competitor is, which is a commercial corporation instead!

Even if I rarely listen to K-Love's format, I am a full advocate of them continuing to build on their footprint!

EMF/K-Love is aired on 1570 AM WUBG, Methuen, though maybe mostly for the 105.3 FM translator in Medford serving the Mystic Valley towns just north of Boston and the lower North Shore.

But surely not heard directly east or south of their transmitter.
Not much to the south. I tried to listen in Somerville two miles south when it was “Big 105.3” playing oldies and could barely get it.
It goes east though, out Routes 16 and 60 through Malden, Everett, Revere to the ocean.

I live in one of the listed towns on Route 16, infact less than one mile north of there. I cannot hardly pick up 105.3 at all, except for one single evening last week. It wasn't coming clear at all, but just enough to hear the music and say to myself "where is this station coming from?"

The 2 others on the FM dial: 103.7, and 107.3 (of course) come in quite a bit better!
