Boston Classic Rock Radio is Stale

I just got back from a few days in San Antonio and had a chance to listen to one of their classic rock stations. I was shocked to hear more than the standard "union" forty that we hear day in and day out in Boston radio.

For instance, I heard Rainbow's "Street of Dreams" followed by KISS' "Strutter." A three day sample pretty much confirmed that they weren't playing the same tired songs like our local stations.

So can anyone explain why in a country dominated town like SA the classic rock station is playing a wider variety of classic rock? Is it because they have to try harder?

drove across Texas to Arizona and was blown away by the great stuff I heard .
Songs that havent been heard in Boston in 20 years.
ZLX pains me. It sucks.

NH's classic rock stations are no better. Nassau's Hawk in Concord/Lakes Region and Q106 in the UV are both bland and generically voicetracked with what appears to be no more than a 300 record playlist. Boring, unless you want to hear "Freebird" again.
XM's Top tracks 46 and Big tracks 49 are light-years better...and no commercials.
