Boston Could Use Another Talk Station/Returned Hosts/local/syndicated/etc.

With how WRKO is doing, I am kinda surprised that no other station in Boston Proper or nearby has decided to try a local with some syndication talk. Some of the talk show hosts and/or syndication could be as follows. (considering that these people were up for the gig):

*Gene Burns, wouldn't it be great to have his intellect back here in Beantown?

*Kim Kommando, her nationally syndicated show was good on computer related stuff. Hasn't been on the air in Boston since 'RKO went back to more of an "issues orriented" talk.

*Bruce Williams, I would like to hear his show again.

*The Dolans, they always had good financial advice!

*Paul Harvey, yes I do like his commentary!

And some of the old people on RKO, the guys who did Funny Business, Tai, Avi Nelson, just to name a few.

Yikes!

While it's always nice to reminisce about pasts hosts that we appreciated....I think we are talking about the past!

These are voices from 20 years ago!

Would Gene Burns be able to walk back in and recover the equity he had in this market? I'm not sure. Anyone know how old Gene is now?

Bruce Williams, who was always criticized as being boring and tempermental, is now 20 years older and syndicated by some small time outfit.

Paul Harvey is about to retire.

The Dolans gave somewhat simplistic advice. (Daria: "Oh Kennnnn")

TV and radio stations that bring back stars from the past, don't really do that well.

Whats happenned is stations have not been real good at finding the next generation of talent. Just think of the people that WRKO has put on the air since Entercom has owned them. Have they found even ONE good new talent?

What Boston needs is one of the other AM's to do talk up against WRKO.

Progressive Talk? Air America? to 1510AM?

Instead we have 890AM, 1060AM, 1090AM, 1200AM and 1510AM just treading water.

Anyone know how Marjorie Claprood is doing these days?

I think she is supposed to be on with Finneran.

Here's an update:

Hey everyone...though I have not sent anything your way in quite a while...I think most of you have been in touch or seen Marjorie yourselves and know she continues to do incredibly well. If you have not seen her she's now got that Sharon Stone look goin on, (the hairstyle not the skirt style) and has almost achieved that amazing energy level again that we are all so jealous of.
So I thought you would like to know that tomorrow Weds April 16 she will be on air with Tom Finneran on WRKO (680 am dial) 6-10 am. It will be her first visit to RKO quite a while, and I knew that all of you if you had a chance would like to tune it at some point in the morning. A day like tomorrow will be validation for all of you that your prayers, notes, cards, thoughts, and well wishes played an integral part in her recovery. Thanks so much from both of us....and enjoy waking up to Marge in the morning! Chris Spin

Now that's what I call a quick response! ;D
If I were at WRKO, I would be in negotiations with Marjorie now,
to reach an agreement for her return to the airwaves. With the
technology available, she could do a program from the comfort
of her own home...

Despite the demand, Gene is happy in San Fran as he has said on several guest appearances on WBZ
recently. We'll have to transit the meridian without him.

Howie btw keeps tweaking his employer--after he was told the station's website was down,
he said, "Entercom happens"... :)

WTTT had tried syndie talk via Salem; now they're Spanish language.
Some of the syndie hosts not heard here:
--Sean Hannity (ABC-Citadel--for now)
--Bill O'Reilly (W1....or is WTKK running best of on weekends? prob is)
-- The whole Air America/Jones/Nova M deal
--Dennis Miller (W1)
--Mark Levin (ABC-Citadel)
--Neal Boortz (Jones)
--Glenn Beck (Premiere; their site says he's now up to 300 affiliates) WRKO's lineup page
says Sat 7-10 pm "coming soon" but they pretty much do sports during that slot,
right? And this Sat the Sox have a game then...)
--Salem hosts like Dennis Praeger, Mike Gallagher, Michael Medved

Some of these can be heard on stations not too far away. Beck's on CC stations in Worc, Prov,
and NH. The Pulse 107.7 up in NH had Dennis Miller; not sure if they still do.

And of course someone could actually put on a show with a local host once in awhile..

Avi does fill ins for Howie once in awhile.
Supposedly Reese is in for Howie next week, so, is Avi, then, in for _him_? Or maybe Bob Hedlund will do it...

Is Paul Harvey considered a talk host? Reading news items and rest of the story in smaller bites...

Whatta 'bout Roy Masters! :p....(still watin' fo' da return of Thaaaaaam Leykis!) a guy can dream can't he? ;D

Oh, Roy Masters is on America Right on the Special Radio Howie Isn't Allowed to Mention*, late nights
(on when I drive home). His son runs Talk Radio Network IIRC.

*--the one with two letters, not the one named after the dog star..

Yeah right, another Boston talk station, so we can have another 20 posts a day complaining about what some talk show host said.

Yeah, that's what we need...

Roy Masters is on WROL 950 weekdays 3:30-5:30.
WHJJ 920 out of Providence has every weekday Sean Hannity 3-6 pm, Mark Levin 6-8 pm (except Fridays), Bill O'Reilly 8-10 pm, and WW1's Jim Bohannon 10pm -12 am. These shows are partially preempted on nights of Pawtucket Red Sox broadcasts.

Another talk station? Ya mean like WNSH? They ramped up to 30K watts and filled their time with B-list hosts. HUGE IMPACT, right?

WNSH: Well, Laura Ingraham is good/popular and sometimes Tammy Bruce (another TRN host) can be good
for a couple minutes during Howie's ad breaks (she fills in for Laura once in awhile)...not quite into
Dr. Joy Browne, etc.
