Boston Globe Reports WRKO Looking For New Talent...In The Same OLD Places

Re: The Boston Globe Article

Jason Wolfe comes off like a total incompetent if he thinks the same lack luster names he is considering for DePetro's old time slot will improve WRKO ratings.

Same BORING old names with minimal talk radio talent.

Certainly, Jason Wolfe is out of his element once he gets out of the boys locker room into the real world of non sports talk radio.
Just about any aging jock or jock wannabe can pull off sports talk with a book of stats and a gravel like voice. Doesn't work in the broader talk show format.

>>>Certainly, Jason Wolfe is out of his element once he gets out of the boys locker room into the real world of non sports talk radio

no doubt, crooked hacks & boring columnists, sounds like 'tkk at its worst, jason's in over his head...

b.t.w., steve bailey's a friend of kahn's, she forced him into the morning show segment awhile back,

Haven't read the Boston Globe-Democrat (as Michael Graham calls it) yet today

>>BORING old names

Maybe they'll hire a boring old producer too...naaaahhh!

Meanwhile south of the border (and I mean R.I. not Mexico), the musical chairs should soon be
underway: Hannity from WPRO to WHJJ apparently, replaced by Glenn Beck--and Arlene Violet
(3 pm time slot) may be "retiring". On the Prov board they're wondering if that WHJJ slot might be
a good spot for DePetro (or would they run Hannity live instead). I keep checking DePetro's site--
that petition is still up, etc. He still has hope of getting back on 'RKO, I guess. Maybe he can
have a sudden conversion to liberalism and start pitching his show to AAR Boston...

Oh OK, I just looked up the article online

http://www.boston.com/ae/celebrity/articles/2006/11/28/more_lessons_for_richards_about_race/

Alex Beam being considered--a Globie! I remember he called in to talk to Jerry W. during his farewell
show.

The obit for Casey (son of Ken) Coleman is also in the Globe-Democrat.

Alex Beam hosted "The Connection" on WBUR a few times during the Chris Lydon/Dick Gordon interregnum.

Why is BOSTONRADIOWATCH.com on the WRKO "Press" page. You really think NO ONE at WRKO is reading these boards - HA - they watch this stuff religiously...it's "Press"

"It's a matter of finding the right person or combination of people," said Wolfe.

Oh, please, Jason, whoever hired DePetro gave us a perpetual Friday the 13th. What a horror show.

Bailey's been on WRKO before -

WRKO beefs up biz show
By Herald staff
Thursday, January 19, 2006

WRKO-AM 680 is getting down to business.

The Hub station on Monday premiered its new “Boston Business Today” news package, featuring Herald business editor and columnist Cosmo Macero Jr. and Boston Globe business columnist Steve Bailey.

Each will broadcast a daily business news commentary during WRKO’s “Boston This Morning” show, hosted by Scott Allen Miller.

Macero airs at 6:37 a.m. and Bailey broadcasts at 7:37 a.m.

Bailey and Macero join the Wall Street Journal’s John Connolly, who provides hourly reports on New England business news during “Boston This Morning” and the afternoon “Howie Carr Show.”

“We’re bringing together three business heavy-hitters to create a must-listen package for anyone in Boston business,” said WRKO Operations Director Brian Whittemore.

If anyone needs evidence of the failure of WRKO, just read Mark's BOSTONRADIOWATCH - the entire front page has horror stories about WRKO. Don't take our word for it - read a page that WRKO obviously watches closely - and links to!

The WRKO page does have a "headlines" bit from the Herald (it even ran some headlines about the
DePetro incident). Not sure why the BRW link came up on there...
Macero was a frequent co-host with VB on his 'RKO show and for all I know he may also be with him on the Ch 25 morning news (which, given my work/sleep schedule, is on too early for me to catch...)

They should hire Michael Richards. If he publicly humiliates himself just three more times with his lame apologies and proclomations of his 'love for African Americans', maybe he could pick up the old WILD listeners. ::)

Even better they should team Richards up with John DePetro. That is a show I would listen to.... ;)
