Boston Needs a Urban A/C Station ( I said it over and over again )

To the People whom said that Urban A/C cant work in New England ( Boston ) , Take a look at New Haven CT, 12 plus ratings . WYBC 94.3 ( Small FM Signal ) is tied with Hip Hop Giant WZMX Hot 93.7 for the First Place . I said it before and I will say it again, Boston needs a Urban A/C station ( AM or FM, small or big signal ) To many rock stations are hittin Rock bottom or a waste of a radio signals ( 101.7,92.9,97.7,93.7,890,590,1510 ). Until there is a legel Urban A/C station, I will say, Touch today,Touch Tomorrow, and Touch Forever ( Pirate 106.1 Touch FM ) !

And I thought this dreck was done with the last time the rest of us on the board put after Rapking and Co. He does have a valid point in saying if done with good execution on a LEGAL station, the format does well. WDAS 105.3 here in Philly is a good example. Scott Fybush mentions another solid example in this week's NERW, with a twist:
Cumulus now has an AM-on-FM translator in Harrisburg, where WTCY (1400) has been getting a solid audience for years with its "Touch" urban AC format.

Now WTCY is being heard on FM, via translator W237DE (95.3 Harrisburg). The translator runs 60 watts, directional, from the WNNK (104.1) tower, and as of last week the station is now identifying itself solely by the FM dial position.

WILD could do no worse than that...

I agree with Rapking, "Boston needs an Urban AC Radio Station" on one of those stations as he said (101.7, 92.9, 97.7, 93.7, 590am, or 1510am)
My thoughts are 92.9 would be the best station, because their signal comes in excelent in and around this part of Boston, Massachusetts area.
My thoughts are also, we need either an Urban AC Station [perhaps have either or] (The Touch-ABC Radio Network) and or have a Smooth Jazz Station [Jones Radio Network]
Good standing up on this Rapking

Urban AC on 97.7 would make sense. It would be more profitable for Entercom than WAAF is right now on its two overlapping signals.
good idea, or better yet, as I said before, put "Funkytown" on 93,7, and put (Mike FM on 93.7 HD station)
and work on Funkytown 93.7 to put on some live radio announcers (Anthony Pic) and radio programs (Doug Banks) and have some mixes on around noon-3, and at night R&B Slow Jams 7pm-9pm, and Mixes from 9pm-Midnight.
My ideas are put Funkytown on 93.7 and put Smooth Jazz on 97.7. That would make Boston a lot happier. Somple as that.

Good grief, THIS AGAIN!
Buy your own station and be done with it.

NEEDS include food, shelter, clothing.

Residents of Greater Boston don't NEED a urban A/C radio station.

As a side note, they had one or two and clearly showed they don't NEED or WANT one.

Local Ownership is not walking though that door. Mr Nash( Former W I L D owner ) and anyone whom think like him is not walking though that Door. And any New local Ownership think about owning a radio station, That local ownership will get "Wal-Mart Out" . Thank you Act of 96 ! Needs, Include food, shelter, clothing, THIS IS A RADIO BOARD ! If It was so easy to start up a radio station, why are there so many W I L D Former staff at Pirate 106.1 Touch-FM ? Big Out Of town Radio Ownership, is so out of touch with the city of Boston. A Former W I L D PD, and Pirate Choice-Fm, is having a event this weekend and I will be there. Its to bad that these legal stations dont care about People of Boston.

Deregulation didn't force local ownership to sell their stations, they chose to do so. Maybe you should be mad at the sell outs, like the aforementioned Mr. Nash.

With that post, you must have some stocks in Wal-Mart ( or some big companies that force the little mom and Pops business to sell ) . Nash Family though Radio One will take W I L D to the next level ( 24 Hours on the FM Dial, Not Half Chr/R and Half Urban a/c and all JUNK ). Its like you sell you sell a House( for a good reason ), and the new owner change your former House, into run down slum lord business .

OH, those Big Bad McClear-Wal-Mart type companies held their hands behind the local owners backs and demanded they take millions more than their stations were worth!

Yes, you should be blaming the local owners for taking the money and running.

Besides, Clear Channel is selling off lots of their stations.

Take your life savings along with your friends, buy a station and do it legally, like the rest of us!

BYW, nothing is life worth having is EASY! ::)

Actually it was Mrs. Nash that sold out wasn't it?

Mr. Nash was long dead.

We could ask R-I's Dana Hall who worked there back in the day.. Dana do you read our posts?

When you lose your job because the Big companies want to go CHEAP ( automated,Syndication, Voice track ,or What ever), Will you still love your big company that you used to work for ( that is if you are radio employee )? Employee of 92.9,93.7,and 1090 must love it, that they got the Boot ( Job lost ) .

Yeah, Like upper middle class Americans, has 80+ Millions, packed away in the closet, waiting for a radio sale.

If there was truly a "need", a station would do it. A "need" in a market would indicate profitability, would it not? No profit, no dice on a given format. And the existence of a pirate broadcasting that particular format is *not* proof of its viability. Pirates have no where near the over-head or actual costs of a legal station. Forget the costs for getting and maintaining proper licenses, is the Pirate paying proper royalties and fees for the music they play (ASCAP, BMI, etc)? I'm going to guess no. It doesn't take much for them to turn a profit in that case, just as in many other illegal ventures.

Seems to me after years of reading these forums, the people who clamor for one format or another or consistently slam on another format/station are basically seeking the same thing: stations formatted to their own personal tastes and preferences. You know what...such a thing already exists without changing a single radio station format: IPOD. Do us all a favor, invest $500 in an iPod and an iTunes account, program that to your heart's content, and give it a rest already. The act is getting stale.

So, the format is needed...and a local owner who knows Boston could do it right...wait...doesn't that describe exactly WILD under Nash?? If there was a "need" for the format, how come the Nash family wasn't making money hand-over-fist? The Nash family sold-out...they took the money because the offer was good, if they cared about the station MORE than the money, they would have kept it.
