Boston pirate at 92.5

There was a Boston pirate playing Celtic music on 92.5 on 93 in Dorchester to the South End. It wiped out WXRV for a couple of miles. Pirates now not even just using adjecents but occupied channels.

A Celtic music pirate... that's a new one. When did you hear this? Has anyone else heard it?

I'm wondering if, instead of a pirate station, if it may have been a driver with an FM transponder set to 92.5 in his car listening to a Celtic satellite radio channel (or Celtic music on his iPod through his car radio), nearby or beside your car for that stretch of the Expressway?

Happens to me all the time. That's far more likely.

Sounds reasonable to me. See, all Rapking needs to but buy himself an iPod/satellite radio transponder and he can set up his own pirate station :)

Dont transpoders need to be on an open channel for best results?

Not necessarily, since the transponder is only a few feet away from your receiving car antenna. It can cut out moderately powered signals within a very close range, and WXRV's signal is moderate (at best) around Boston.

It may also cut out moderate signals (such as WXRV) in nearby cars. WMBR gets constant reception complaints due to all the people with transponders left on their common default frequency 88.1 cutting out the station in nearby cars.

The transponder may not work around Boston if you put it on the same frequency as one of the full-power FM stations from the Pru.
