Boston PPM

Entercom and Clear Channel are obviously on board and encrypting their signals here in RI as evidenced by the August PPM Numbers out of Boston as WEEI-FM, B101, SNE and HJY all pulled numbers (I think there is a problem as WEEI-FM supposedly pulled a 4.5 and WEEI-AM only pulled 0.8, they should be reversed). I made a trip up to Boston on Thursday and was able to have a good signal on 103.7 to about Canton/Sharon area.

Kudos to Chris Tyler at Kiss with a MONSTER month and having an 8.9

With WBCN gone, expect listeners to turn to HJY for their rock fix.

Which will result in more changes in the way they do things at HJY. The CC premium choice people on B101 and Coast are rigid and boring but this may not affect numbers in B101's case. If that happens then watch what happens on HJY.

I wouldn't expect a full bore migration over to HJY. There will be some increase with the south of beantown meters; but I will have to do a spot check this weekend when I am up there on how well the signal gets towards the metro. The other rock stations in Boston would probably fare better than say a station in Providence or Worcester would.

The average Bostonian isn't into Providence radio any more than the average Rhode Islander is into Boston radio. Some south of Boston, yes, like you said. HJY is a solid station musically but nothing earth shattering. I haven't really listened to AAF in a while so I don't know how their music compares to HJY's. Also don't forget that HJY really is built upon the two drive time shows that may be institutions in RI but might both be looked at as acquired tastes for potential converts to the station. If you're that into P&A or Charles chances are you've already found them. If you're not into them you won't get into them at this stage of the game. P&A are definitely old school and Charles doesn't do the kind of act likely to win over new listeners. If you like them you like them. If you don't you won't come over to HJY just for a Van Halen fix you can get anywhere.

How "alt" was BCN anyway? I'd go more with WAAF as an alternative for the average BCN listener. It's more of an AOR like HJY and Boston listeners are more inclined to listen to it.
