Boston Radio Observations

Well, I am once again visiting the homeland, and here are my observations, thus far:

WXKS and Jam'n' sound very similar at night

WBOT has a city grade signal now, but still has holes in Cambridge-Somerville area

WJIB seems to have picked up where 1410 left off (Good Work JibGuy!)

Mix985 has a very loose playlist, but sounds more CHR now that Lady D does nights

Oldies1033 plays more disco now, heard ABBA in the rotation this morning

10-9-0 WILD sounds like a throw back to the pre-Kiss108 days.

There is indeed "Hash" on either side of WBZ 1030 on the AM band (but this didn't effect ability to DX

1010 WINS comes in great at night, every night, but during the day, 1010 has a dead spot.

93-7 Mike FM is pitched

93-7 Mike FM is really not variety hits, but just a jockless Modern/HotAC in disguise

FNX has very strong sound processing, not typical of an Alternative Rocker

WBZ TV's open indeed sounds like the Theme from Bonanza, and should be changed

WBZ TV News is polished, but not as exciting to watch as WHDH "7 News"

WBZ Radio's Microphones are still red and white and still have the old "Westinghouse Group W" font on them.

That's all I have for now, more later.

My, My, WBZ Radio AM 1030 has RED mics.
Anyone in the Bush Administration know that?
They will be calling Infinity any moment and demanding they not broadcast anything with a RED Mics. They will think 'BZ picked them up from PRAVDA.
Well, then again considering The All News Station current record with the govern mental powers maybe they did.

I think you need to listen to them longer. I heard Aretha Franklin - Respect on there today, certainly not part of those formats. There are MANY songs from the 70s, including disco and classic rock.... Mike FM IS the Adult/Variety Hits/whatever you want to call it format.

EVERYONE understands you have issues with WBZ. Move on…

In the words of The Eagles:

I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin’ ’don’t blame me’
They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else
Spend all their time feelin’ sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma’s too thin; your daddy’s too fat

Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin’ and cryin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it, get over it

The Ball is in WBZ AM 1030 The All News Station's court. They fouled out not me.
They want to play in the game; they have to follow the rules of journalism. Withholding news for RATINGS purposes is not one of them.
They should be removed from the Major Leagues for that one.

Hey Parklane, thanks for hijacking the thread!!!!!!!

Why don't you LET IT GO!!!!

It's really nothing more than a wireless Ipod. As long as jockless format delivers numbers it will continue. And a 3.0 share may be considered good
because of lower overhead &higher profits.

Obviously Parklane is obsessed with WBZ. But you guys keep feeding his obsession. Dont answer him and he may go away.

Buddy, I don't even bother to read the news/talk threads on this board, because I don't generally find those stations interesting (hence, I'm the MassMusicMan.) But your rantings make such little sense, I'm compelled to comment.

They fouled out? Funny, their large listener and advertising base don't seem to indicate that.

Who says they HAVE to follow the rules of journalism? Until somebody takes their license, they'll broadcast whatever they please.

If you think they should be "removed from the Major Leagues", the step to take is to file an FCC complaint, not to start threads on a message board.
______________

Your rap is really boring, Paul. It just shows just how clueless you are.
WBZ ain't about journalism. It never was. It's about leading off with
morning's front page story in the Globe or the Herald which Gary the
Beach Bunny can skim thru on the web, recycled news in midday, top AP headlines
in the afternoon. It's about traffic on the 3s, weather on the 8s and
sports on the 15s, and big snowstorm cancellations in the winter. That's
their game. They bring cumes. That's what they sell. That's what people buy
from them. It ain't about investiagtive reporting. Get a clue.

Re: What are moderators for? (no txt)

I know the thread is on another subject entirely, but as long as it seems to be off on a tangent...

I sometimes believe that our capacity to respond to the news has been conditioned by the televison plot arc - a build-up is followed by a problem, and then comes the resolution right behind it - all within 30 to 60 minutes. That which does not end neatly and on schedule begins to bore and irritate us if it lingers without getting resolved. So it is that news stories are either resolved or they just go away.

It is only recently that I have heard continued discussions of unresolved news stories dismissed impatiently as "old news," as if the lack of resolution itself was cause to make the story just go away. Mention the Downing Street memo or Valerie Plame and the response is not to the story but to the age of the story: "oh, there you go again, bringing up old news..." Never mind that we still have no better idea what really went on than we did the day the story broke.

This WBZ story is significant. Yes, they do have a duty as a news station and as the holder of that frequency to inform the public responsibly. These are the public's airwaves. If they have systematized failure, that should be looked at. Even if it might be boring.

> > > Why don't you LET IT GO!!!!

You are correct to a degree. As someone much wiser than both of us use to ask young budding broadcasters what business they were getting into and the answers were all full of idealism - the Dean would say, " No, you are getting into the advertising business." He is still right but you can't blame Flo Jonic for having a shred of idealism left after all her years in broadcasting.

Your last juvenile comment speaks volumes. God, save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. You know there is a world beyond IPODS.

Oh my God I can't believe you're getting political in THIS thread. Dude, there's a time and place for everything. This ain't it.

I'm jumping in. Re: Boston Radio Observations

And here I thought it was "he whose name cannot be said".

You must be playin' me, because you can't possibly be this dense. I'll admit that my comment about alternatives to posting here was off-base, but who said anything about IPods? I don't even own one.

That said, you seem to be good at saying senseless things in an attempt to bait people. Ever considered a career working in a dunk tank?
______________
