But they should stop trying to reach the TikTok/Instagram age group, which doesn't really listen to radio anyway, let alone to an AM station that's primarily spoken word. Else they will succeed in driving away many decades-long loyal listeners.

Decades-long = well past the age of 55 and not a factor
 
61 yrs old, used UPI, then AP teletype at WMWM...changed ribbons etc. Was in studio 3-30-81--bulletins about Reagan
shooting came over.
Sound effects of teletype on news stations right up there with announcer echo on oldies/top 40 or foreign language stations..old days

I was in the combined offices of Y-100 and Radio Hit (WHTT) in Miami when the Regan shooting crossed the wire. As I was manager of WHTT, and Regan was fanatically popular among the mostly Cuban audience in Miami, we broke format with constant updates and reports. I even sat in the newsroom and monitored English language stations to make sure we did not miss anything.

We did not have teletype sounds, but did have lots of sounders such as TV stations use for different "breaking news" and "update" categories, mostly varieties of drum rolls and the like. And, we still had one that was a Morse Code sequence!

I don't support any non-comms now as it is. Very little of their programming is to my liking as well.

Truth be told: I find many radio ads to be quite creative and fun to listen to; e.g., those for Rite Window and Reed's Ferry Sheds. Both are voiced very, very capably by Bill Wightman, I believe. When he was employed at WBZ under CBS, Michael Coleman did an excellent job on the ads he voiced for MacKinnon's (sp?) Meat Markets. Stop blaming the advertisers.

51. Started in radio while I was in college in 1990 and the old teletype machines were history even by then... it was dot matrix printers for the first few years and by the mid 90s it was all computers.
