WBZ FM # 1 and increases their lead

WMJX lost some listeners.
Maybe should have flipped earlier

25-54: 1. WBZ-FM 2. WXKS 3. WEEI-FM (up from T6) T4. WMJX T4. WROR 6. WBQT
18-34: 1. WBZ-FM T2. WXKS T2. WROR T4. WJMN T4. WBQT 6. WBOS (up from T12)
18-49: 1. WBZ-FM 2. WXKS 3. WROR 4. WMJX 5. WBQT 6. WEEI-FM

WKLB continues to slide and nothing doing at WBWL either. Country seems on the upswing elsewhere. Could the influx of twangier, more Southern-sounding artists and songs into the format over the past couple of years be turning listeners off in non-traditional markets like Boston?

The August vs. November numbers for 98.5 speaks volumes about the difference in popularity of the Red Sox and the Pats.

Maybe should have flipped (to all-Christmas) earlier

But on the other hand, WMJX-106.7 has no Boston competition in the all-Christmas format (although parts of the Boston area can receive WSRS-96.1 in Worcester and WWLI-105.1 in Providence, the former having flipped to all-Christmas two weeks before WMJX did).

If Boston had two stations that go all-Christmas every year, both WMJX and whoever else did it would both flip earlier than the Friday before Thanksgiving, both probably within minutes of each other.

Personally, I think that within a couple of years, November 1st will become the "default date" that radio stations going all-Christmas will flip.

Should WMJX have a huge Holiday book, local management and Audacy corporate may well decide in 2023 and beyond to flip WMJX earlier in November (perhaps even November 1st) in the hope that the inflated Christmas music ratings can be sustained as early as November 1st.

Could be a seasonal thing. The male part of the demo might drift over to the sports stations during football season. That's where I am. The female part of the demo might drift over to the Christmas station. I find it funny that even WEEI is benefiting from the fall sports bump.

With The Sports Hub, don't forget that the Bruins and Celtics are both number one in the NHL and NBA respectively. It isn't just the Patriots that I'm willing to bet are driving the station's numbers.

Stations that have done the "All Christmas" flip, (and have done it for years), have researched and evaluated the risk/reward scenario of what date will attract more people than alienate.

From what I can see, most have decided that the weekend before Thanksgiving is the "default date" that is a balance between 'driving people away', and adding new listeners.

Any earlier, you alienate/shed more listeners than you attract.

(The only reason to flip earlier and maybe take the hit, would be if there was a competitor and 2 stations were battling for the "Christmas Station" moniker.)

...and Krazy K000nah continues to be an albatross around RKO's neck.

Does anyone know when the contract for the New England Patriots game coverage come up for renewal?

I found this vague item from 2019

In Boston, Chad Finn reports the Patriots and Beasley Media Group "agreed on a multiyear extension" that will keep WBZ-FM as the "team's radio home for the foreseeable future." Terms of the deal "were not disclosed."

It'd be fun to see a WRKO ratings by show breakdown like Chad Finn used to do for 98.5 vs WEEI. Wishful thinking I guess.
Would love to see what Kuhner's show draws and Howie's.
