Also tied with WERS and WBOS is the free-falling WRKO.

WBZ-FM/98.5 the Sports Hub likely got a bump from the Pats season being underway, as well as Bruins and Celtics pre-season.

Why The Sports Hub ( 98.5 ) ratings is so good ? This is a sports crazy market, Great Radio hosts =Great Ratings . WEEI was late going to FM and got rid of their great morning show and loss the celtics to the sports hub .

Good news for WBZ. I am happy to see the turnaround, the personalities deserve it for the work they are putting in. I am sure the recent big news stories have helped. NPR stations are still doing well with gains.

It feels like WBZ-FM is unstoppable with Bruins Patriots and Celtics. I am not a “radio guy” just a regular guy who likes radio. but I have a feeling no station will catch them for months.

98.5 has been crushing WEEI for something like 10 years now :D
I theorize that is the result of several factors, including:
- WBZ-FM had a two year head start on FM, while (then) Entercom kept WEEI exclusively on AM.
- WBZ-FM started off with Toucher and Rich, which appealed towards a younger demographic than that of Dennis & Calahan.
- WBZ-FM began with the Patriots (at their height) and the Bruins (as they became increasingly competitive). In fact, a few months before WEEI went to FM, the Bruins won the Stanley Cup.
- WBZ-FM then lured the Celtics away from WEEI, and the Celtics additionally became increasingly competitive.
- WEEI continued to shuffle around air staff (changing shows), where WBZ-FM has been mostly consistent since it launched.
- Out of the four major sports, WBZ-FM has three of the teams, and the one team that WEEI has is the one that has performed the worst over the last five years.

Boston is different. Pick any top sports market you want and you won't find similar ratings to BZFM. As much credit as I give Ordway for getting the whole Marconi thing started with morning and afternoon dominance it wasn't the Big O. As soon as another station began a better presentation and sound, D&C/WEEI faded badly. Chicago, a city with all the majors and two MLB clubs has two sports stations which get lousy ratings (I think they are both AM's). That doesn't mean they aren't making $$$, it just isn't Boston. Other places do not get big sports-talk numbers.

I think any well run sports station in this market is going get males (and some females) to the point of being able to lead the market (or come close).
Other places can't do that no matter how well franchises are playing.
