Boston Radio Ratings: September 2023

This is a crock of (expletive), and is beneath my expectations for intelligent commentary, even for this forum.
Although I've grown weary of cranky Fred (couple weeks ago went on a tirade about people who dared to try to run community 5ks quickly).
Whenever I turn to 'eei I just don't get it. Wiggy is dumb as rocks and Curtis has an all time terrible voice for radio but constantly interjects with "clever" zingers.

NBCSportsBoston put a vid on youtube of the day John Henry, angry, went to the Sports Hub studios to confront what Felger and Mazz were saying about him and the Sox.

Then there was 11/1/18 I believe, when WEEI's Minehan marched to then then-studios of Sports Hub in an effort to "Fire Felger!" From the sneaker building to the 38 building.

I can think of no worse a voice for radio than Joe Castiglione's rusty-gate creak, yet somehow he's held on to his job as Red Sox lead announcer for more than 40 years.

Check that, I forgot about Chris "Donald Duck on Amphetamines" Russo, who's making millions at SiriusXM after a successful stint at WFAN.

If the FCC would mandate HD and increase its power maybe HD would be successful.
You know how expensive it is for many stations to get the necessary equipment, right? The time to have mandated HD, not to mention to actually build the necessary infrastructure (especially in rural and remote areas), would’ve been two decades ago - those days are long gone.

When has Hill outperformed T&R? For the short while when T&R were the morning team on WBCN, I thought they did better than Hill on WAAF. For the tenure of T&R on The Sports Hub vs Hill still on WAAF, T&R performed better. I get they weren't exact competing formats, but they did overlap in targeted audience. How has T&R on The Sports Hub perform against Hill on WEEI? I always took it as T&R were top performers while Hill comes in 2nd.
Hill hasn’t topped T &R but the trend this year has been dramatic. Towards WEEI. And it’s the ONLY day part where that’s happening as 98.5 crushes them rest of day.

Well, the recent ratings show it’s not crock. It’s bad radio reflected in a dramatically reduced advantage over the primary competitor.
I can tell you —when one day part diverges from the rest of the day…it’s a clear advance warning.

No, the crock was the assertion that the cast and crew of T&R are lazy.

Well, I’m not sure your hyperbolic flaming of my commentary (see: “commentary”) was warranted. So…ok…Maybe those guys aren’t lazy, but the product is weak. Does “declining results from hard working but regularly unfocused talent” rise to your level of acceptable commentary? Is what I said really at the horrific levels of incivility you allege? Really? Is assuming crappy radio is lazy radio THAT big a stretch? Perhaps…

GOONer does spots on Talk1200. He does one for QC Kinetics and one of the words he has to say is halloween. GOONer calls it HOLLOW-een and with all the spots he does, the closer to the end of the sentence he gets, the higher his voice rises.
Given how religious K0000nah says he is, I'm surprised he has anything to do with Halloween.

Couple of things
1. Toucher & Rich were neck and neck with Kirk & Callahan not that long ago
2. T&R still have monster ratings. Yes they are down a ton from last book, but those numbers are tough to maintain. They still have an almost 4 share lead
3. It’s only one book for Hill. I’m sure Sports Hub is going to tighten things up and monitor what WEEI is doing, but let’s see what happens in this fall book
4. No one should be surprised to see gains at WEEI after Mike Thomas took over the Boston cluster. He’s one of the top radio executives in the country
5. You can maybe say that Fred is “lazy” or puts in less hours than Rich, but to call it lazy radio is just silly. Rich works his ass off producing the show. Fred’s main preparation is consuming content

All valid points…but I’d take issue with point 3. It’s NOT “only one book”…the last few books show a clear trend in AM.. Sure T&R is a solid #1…but it’s a much closer race, and closing, in recent books. Most significantly it’s a SINGLE DAYPART….NOT a rising tide from a station (WEEI) overall performing well. Mike Thomas may be a smart guy but his work isn’t showing results anywhere the REST of the day or night —where WEEI ratings are horrible.
T&R right now—is giving WEEI an opening. 98.5 needs to close the door. They know it.
