Boston Radio Songs That Make You Cringe

;D

Almost all mass-marketed recorded material regardless of genre: Rock, pop, C&W...features an overrated talentless individual or group braying and bellowing, howling and yowling, moaning and groaning, screeching and screaming IN A MONOTONE! My recent favorite: some performer of such material was supposed to, um, "sing" his latest release on the Today Show on NBC. I think his genre was C&W, but it doesn't matter. The no-talent homunculus forgot to bring the prop microphone up in front of his face while he moved his lips and mouth. So the "vocal" went on for 15 seconds or so while he held his mic down by his side. Became viral on the Youtubez. A monotone.

When I hear ' We are Family' at a wedding, I hide in the bathroom.

I have a friend who's getting married in September. He tells me that the band he has hired will be contractually barred from playing it.

Isn't "Brown Eyed Girl" considered the best-testing song of all time? I've heard it consistently puts smiles on focus-group faces, no matter how many times those people might have heard the song. AFAIK, it was never prominently featured in a movie (a la the perennially popular "Unchained Melody" and "Old Time Rock and Roll") and, of course, it got nowhere near No. 1 in its initial release. Whatever it's got, the song certainly seems to polarize radio geeks and average listeners like no other song out there.

"Brown Eyes Girl" is THE most overplayed song in history, I liked it the first million times I heard it, talk about a tune being burnt out. I really did used to like it too.

Agreed- Brown eyed girl needs to get the boot.

So-called burnout has never affected this song when it comes to non-radio-geek, non-oldies-geek listeners. It ain't going nowhere until its appeal becomes limited to the 55+ crowd. Right now, it's still strong in saleable demographics, so it stays on classic hits and classic rock playlists.
