BOSTON RATINGS released

The April ratings were released on June 1:

BZ: up a bit to best showing in awhile
JMN: one year low, but only slightly

MJX, EEI, XKS, RKO KLB, ROR, AAF, BMX, MKK, BCN, BOS, JIB, NNW,GIR, CTK, OKQ, AMG/LLH, EZE, FNQ: all usual

CRB: usual... apparently not affected by freq-swap
BOS: can't crack a 2, still
PLM: on the low end of the past year
XRV: higher than usual
FNX: back down to where they usually are, starting with a 0._ (after a winter surge)

EEI-FM made first appearance in a year, albiet at the bottom
KOX: first apperance (at the bottom tho) since espanol. (XKS-AM not mentioned)
ILD-(AM): best in a long time!

WTKK and WRKO each went up slightly but in gains WTKK did better than WRKO. In these 12 plus,
WRKO is ranked #6 overall and WTKK #9 overall.

I've heard about a new rating system being tested where radios are actually monitored - no diaries involved. If that ever makes it to Boston, I wonder how much that would shake things up?

Arbitron's PPM system is en route to replace all diaries in a few years, if I understood correctly. Boston should be coming on board in the near future. It's already in place in Philadelphia, and it seems that the new, more honest system favors the "at-work" stations like WROR and WMJX where a radio is left on all day, and is not as friendly to urban and Spanish stations where listeners are more likely to flip around if a song they don't like comes on.

Well, diaries in not necessarily all surveyed markets.

Boston should be coming on board in the near future.

Year after next.

I haven't seen that interpretation before and am curious to know where you came up with that conclusion.

What seems to be happening -- based on testing to date and the early results from Philly -- is a much higher cume for many stations (those which were actually heard but may not have been noted in a diary) but often a lower tsl (not a higher one, as you seem to be suggesting).

And yes, the bottom did fall out of the urban stations in Philly. It probably won't take long for Al Sharpton (and others who don't accept that reality) to raise a fuss. We can only hope that Arbitron opts for accuracy rather than caving in to any protests.

Let me know when Al Sharpton, will stand up for White Owned Radio Station ( Power 99 and WDAS Philly are Clear Channel Stations ,and Radio One is a "Wannabee Judge Thomas Radio group". )

A sad day when BCN is beat by that horrid station BMX in any trend or at any time.

PPM is a step in the right direction that may finally address Arbitrons outdated
methodology: listeners that only have cell phones. This is devastating for stations
such as WBCN, WAAF and WFNX and to a lesser degree WJMN
These are the ever increasing younger listener who no longer lives at home and
and sees no reason to have a land line
The reason I give for this issue having a little less affect on JAM'Ns lower end
listeners is many still live at home with parents that always had a home phone.

The problem really struck home when I looked at our station employee telephone list.
We have 38 fulltimers and 13 partimers, of the 38 fulltimers only 10 had a land line
phone. and of these almost all were senior management or slightly older married
people in the sales department who owned a home.
Of the 13 partimers such as weekend jocks and board ops 7 had land lines but
many of them are on the younger side and still live with their parents
Every employee has a cell phone number.

WBCN is lame. Look at their playlist on R&R. Those songs are old.
