Boston ST: Cadillac Jack To Program 96.9 FM

If WTKK does drop their News / Talk format as is looking more and more likely, IMHO, Entercom should immediately migrate WRKO to the FM dial.

As the last one standing and the talk audience of WTKK looking for a place to go on Wednesday or Thursday whenever the change happens, this would be the time to bring WRKO to the FM dial. Hopefully they won't wait around like they did with the migration of WEEI to FM.

"Our spies inside Greater Media..."

Graham (now gone)? Eagan? Eagan said they haven't officially been told but... the writing's on
the wall. Now get some cleaning stuff and wipe that off.

RKO on FM? (98.5 did have those calls years ago). What Entercom has is 93.7, no changes there,
97.7 and 107.3, that's it--barring a sale of another property to Entercom. So such a move would
cut off WAAF from one of its signals (the first one being fairly close to Boston, on Great Blue Hill).
Is AAF making them money? Is it worth losing one of them? So far they haven't taken the
plunge but who knows.
RKO's signal on ancient modulation is pretty well by day but again at night there are problems. There's the idea that many people, especially the young, won't touch the AM dial. (But WBZ
still does fairly well.)

I don't know what other station might switch to talk but would they want to? Salem could turn
one of their properties into cons talk but so far other than airing some shows like Jay
Sekulow I can't see it. Prog talk is stuck with just Santos buying 1 hr on WCRN and 1 on WAZN or
WRCA or whatever.
There is some news, talk etc to be had on powerful FM stations like 89.7 and 90.9. The former
has local with Candy Crossley and Emily Rooney. BUR has some local content, too....

@bostonradio notes a lot more PSAs than ads on 96.9 now. Contracts run out, or rats
deserting sinking ship?

First ep. of WKRP had station changing to a rock format but they did still have to run some
of the old spots for awhile
VENUS FLYTRAP: Together we will growl, and HOWWWWWWWL! (back to a more sober
delivery) Right after this message from Shady Hills Rest Home.

SPOT: Many people ask this age-old question...what happens when I can no longer
feed myself?

btw he prob could be the new PD at TKK but note that it says "could be" not "will". As with
previous articles, it notes he left CC NY but while he may indeed be the new head honcho,
we don't have official word for GM. Again, likely but not quite official

Migrating an angry-old-white-man format to FM is going to draw those 25-to-54's like a vacuum cleaner? You're kidding, right?

First, Entercom doesn't have a signal to spare. They're not blowing up WAAF (5th place 6+, 6A-12M) anytime soon. Second, WRKO's format has no appeal to any demo under 55-to-death without wholesale programming changes.

And now is the time to do those wholesale changes along with the move to FM. 5th place 6+ means little. How is WAAF doing in their desired money demos?

it would make complete sense to move wrko to FM,waaf had a 2.1 the last book and has been in steady decline and we all know how rock stations are doing now a days. i think if programmed right we could see jamn disappear who has also seen ratings decline.

Will the new 96.9 format be closer to Star 93.7's old format? If it was, it would have to be programmed such that it would not have an impact on WMJX. What is the possibility that Pebbles could be doing mornings on the new 96.9FM?

It's almost a given that Pebbles will end up on 96.9. After all, Cadillac Jack worked with her for years.

I can't imagine them flipping to hip hop though. This is 2013 and not 2002.

>>Second, WRKO's format has no appeal to any demo under 55-to-death without wholesale programming changes.

Well I'm almost 51 and I like Howie. Let's see, some diff hosts, younger folks? They do have
Kuhner who was born in the year of the moon landing, Chappaquiddick, and Manson murders.
Howie meanwhile turns 61 next month. Rush will be about 63. You have the VERY exciting
brokered financial show in the morning. Groucho on laughing gas (copying Bob Grant with his
get-off-the-phone-you-big-dope shtick) after Howie...UFO talk overnight

I would think AAF's demo is a bit younger than that. So, if they DID make one of the
AAF signals an RKO simulcast, how about this slogan: The Only Station That Really TALKS

(Hey they did get the AAF guy to voice their liners, right? And they used to have Michael
Savage; we know that 70 year old man LOVES Rammstein!...)

Wiki. entry on Savage: "On his July 19, 2006 show, Savage said that he is a huge fan of the German group Rammstein and that he often drives around at night blasting their music. When challenged by a caller to explain why he likes Rammstein, Savage said that they are "the only true form of poetry and music that reflect the real world nowadays."

That would be an angry MIDDLE AGED white man format. Yes, middle aged. I'm going to live
to 102.

>>WAAF (5th place 6+, 6A-12M) anytime soon.

Not sure what their demos are in older age groups. Probably not bad though. Again "if they weren't doing well it would have been changed before..."

Mark of BRW, when I mentioned some think RKO could take place of an AAF signal:

>>No, not gonna happen. It does well among w/18-49M crowd. Thru process of elimination, 680 becomes only game in town.

I'll add that 97.7 signal is pretty close to Boston and powers AAF into town.

Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Metallica, Radiohead, Scorpions, yes; Howie, Kuhner, Rush,
Levin, no.

With all this chatter about the new format and speculation - why not just announce the new station and the launch date? This has got be one of the worst kept secrets.

Maybe they don't want another station to scoop them (see: "Jack 103.3" oops Entercom beat us to the punch so we'll stay with what we got....or "96.9 is changing, so let's beat them to the punch
with "Evolution"). But yes the speculation is out there anyway.

New book starts 1/3. Station bigwigs are off 1/1; next day, they set things in place and maybe
Jim and Margery do last show--maybe a format switch late on 1/2 or early morning or mid on 1/3?
