Boston Traffic Reports

Westwood One (who is at least 50% owned by CBS) owns Shadow, Metro and Smartroutes. In Boston Shadow was disassembled long ago and Metro and Smart Routes were combined into one place. When Mass Highway pulled their funds SmartRoutes pretty much closed up and let a bunch of people go. I don't think Ch5 had any option but to go in house at that point. Metro Traffic & News still does traffic for a bunch of folks. Clear Channel also has their own outfit called Total Traffic which was where Aron Sawyer last worked.

I agree with the earlier poster regarding Cindy and Jeff from Smartroutes. They both did their jobs very well and were an asset to NewsCenter 5's Eyeopener. I'm not saying that the current traffic person isn't any good...but she does stumble a lot more than either of them ever did...plus she's being made a member of the "team" in a way Jeff and Cindy never were. I wish both Cindy and Jeff the best, and hope they know how much their work was appreciated.

Anyone who has driven in and around Boston every day knows the traffic with out a report. If something happens that slows up a spot, it's on the regular news.

Westwood has been privately owned for almost 3 years. CBS has never owned more than 25% share of W1 when the company was public.
