Boston Yakkers: Don't Blame Us For Tucson Shootings

From WRKO's Howie Carr to WTKK's Michael Graham to WXKS-AM's Jeff Katz, local talk radio hosts are defying responsibility for contributing to the mass shootings in Tucson last weekend.

Katz: "I don’t think [suspect Jared Lee Loughlin] got messages from... talk radio. He might very well have been listening to his cereal in the morning and he interpreted ‘snap,’ ‘crackle,’ ‘pop’ as instructions."

This is preposterous. Everyone knows George Bush is to blame. I heard that the shooter is his illegitimate son and that he gave him the gun for his birthday.

Yes, let's all be children and make ourselves believe that words have no consequences or context.

The shooter will probably just turn out to be a few tacos short of a combination plate, but the debate on our political climate and the excesses committed in its name is something that's long overdue. What is accomplished by demonizing one's political enemies, which is exactly what talk radio has devolved into over the past 20+ years? Does this further the national debate on real, important issues? Does calling your political opponent a traitor, wishing for the President of the United States to fail or couching political rhetoric in gun metaphors assist in the pursuance of the business of this nation?

No one should have been surprised by the Tuscon attack. It was only a matter of time...and if no talk-radio host actually put a gun and ammo in the shooter's hands, they sure did their level best to create the climate where something like this was inevitable.

You're right, it was only a matter of time before this particular individual did something like this although talk radio is not to blame. His deranged mind is to blame.

I must have missed the talk radio hosts that were photoshopping the President as a monkey for 8 years, or the talk show hosts that were hanging the VP candidate in effigy, or carrying posters for the KILL BILL movie where BILL was replaced by BUSH.

Without taking this into Take It Outside or Off The Air, Michelle Malkin's site gives many examples of this, pre-Obama, and the hot-talk occurs on both sides of the aisle. And people on both sides do jump to conclusions, such as when Howie Carr thought the people who did the OKC bombing were
Muslims: "What are we going to do with these towel heads?", he said at the time. He later
apologized.
