Boston's Black Radio War !

Don, don't bother making a cogent and logical
point. It is like arguing with a drunk. In a battle
of wits, the Crap Monarch is unarmed...
clueless to the bitter end... ::)

1.) Did you read my explanations as to why it may be more beneficial to them as a company to hold onto it, than sell it at a fire sale?

2.) Again I ask, who would want to purchase a daytimer in Boston (with no pre-sunrise authority?)? (And if they did sell it, do you think any of the programming would be black oriented?)
[/quote] It's been rumored that 1090 has been on sale since Radio One sold 97.7 to Entercom. Former and current 1090 employees ( Coach Willie Maye ) had said that they fear that Radio One will sell 1090 to a new owner whom will change 1090 format to a non-Black format . Who will buy 1090 ? Most likely a first time radio buyer ( New company or a company who want a radio station ) or a radio company whom does not own a station in Boston .

Hi Uncle Grumps !!!

when the price gets low enough, some hispanic religious broadcaster will buy it and run it. "Dollar a Holler".

It would be near impossible to play any sort of music currently in vogue in the "black" community on AM and get people to listen for any length of time, again when they can tune in to any one of the FM Pirates that are in the community.

I'd love to know what type of format Mr. Rapking thinks can be put on 1090 and be profitable against Touch 106.1 or any of the other pirates.

I'd hate to see 1090 go dark, but I don't see who or what can go in there and survive.
Does anyone know what Radio One is asking for the station these days?

Sorry ! Pirate Radio is still here ! PIRATE RADIO RULES !!!!!!!!!

We're all going to feel foolish when we learn that rapking is really a white guy from Wellesly, who works as an English professor at Boston College.

Given the economy, I don't know any hispanic religious broadcaster can come up with cash for an aquisition.

How about if 1090 does black oriented talk?

Umm, that's what they're doing now, except for after 4 PM until sunset and weekends.

Ummmm...yeah we know. But the point is do it with some effort.

(I am still an advocate that they donate it to Emerson College.)

You spelled Steele wrong.

actually, Mr. STEELE aka Jim Myers, was a high school gym teacher and football coach. Close enough. My wife once said he probably didn't have any problems with discipline.

Obviously, the price is still too high. There are dozens of groups who would like to buy it. There are acouple groups who would like it to be all-gospel, local talk for black community, Spanish, out of town religious groups in English and/or in Spanish. A lot of groups have their eye on it waiting for a price reduction. WILD still has a lot of value... just not as much as what R-One thinks it has.

(almost) 5KW ND on 1090 is pretty nice coverage.

Someone should be able to do something with it.

But, yes, if it is overpriced, all will just wait.

I agree with the first part, but I thought he worked as a radio talk show host from 3-7pm on WRKO? ;D

Yes, daytime status is a problem.

I always thought that a financial/business format was perfect for a daytimer. Heavy stock market emphasis.
The market open after sign-on, and--in the winter--it closes 15 minutes before 4:15 (earliest) sign-off.
