Boston's Black Radio War !

Doubtful WILD would go Spanish religious, with Salem's WWDJ already going with brokered religious shows and Spanish praise and worship music.

I still think doing Black Talk is there best hope.

But doing it right. Promoting and imaging it right.

Maybe with a 1 or 2 hour local show. Get Lovell to do a weekend show.

Maybe some preachers paying $$ on the weekend.

Maybe some music specialty shows on the weekend.

Do something interesting in the early evening in the summer.

Heres a question: Who would be the best black talk host in Boston?

Someone to be their anchor host...where the other shows are built around them.

It's my opinion that daytimers such as WILD 1090 should be allowed to broadcast 6AM-9PM everyday. Some do so illegally, but that's another story for another day.

last time i tuned in at 3:30 WBAL was already fading in. whats the point?

I think that's a great idea. WILD should make application to broadcast from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. until 12 midnight Friday and Saturday, and 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sundays and holidays(including Thanksgiving and Christmas). And when it comes time for them to sign-off the air, they can re-open their web site and do programming on the internet 24/7. Let's see if we can look into this. ::)

Ummmm....there is zero chance that WILD can do this.

Please look up the term "daytimer" and you will understand what's wrong with your post.

If there ever had been any way that WILD could have legally broadcast later in the day on 1090, they would have done it decades ago. WILD must sign-off a half-hour after sunset (after a low-power half-hour) per FCC regulations because strong AM signals skip long distances at night, and a 50,000 watt station in Baltimore WBAL, which bombs in up here after sunset, legally owns that frequency in the northeast at night. There is nothing that can be done, or could ever have been done, about that.

Heres a "minority" audience format idea for 1090....gay community radio. Toronto has it, San Fransisco's got it...i'm sure other cities do as well. Of course R1 wouldnt do this...just a hypothetical for future owner.

Do you have any statistics on the relative numbers of African Americans vs GLBTs in metro Boston? It would be a big surprise if the African Americans did not outnumber the GLBTs by a large ratio. Of course, population numbers alone don't tell the whole story; the buying power of the communities is super important. So if you have statistics on the relative buying power of African Americans vs GLBTs in the market, that would be very interesting too. But neither the number of households, nor the average income per family unit, nor the disposable income per family unit tells the whole story. You really need to present all such data or find a way to combine the data in a way that yields numbers that you can use to predict the success of the format you propose.

one of the HD2's around here is a "pride" format, IIRC there is a XM channel that is LGBT oriented.

is "1 in 10" still on FNX?

If you use the 1 in 10 statistic the LGBT community tosses out to claim 10% of the population is of an alternative sexual persuasion, that is more than what Arbitron publishes as a percentage of Black people who are part of the Boston radio markets makeup.

If I were to take a guess, that type of a format would have a fair amount of music involved and music does not work very well on AM anymore (exception to this WJIB) now that everyone expects music to be in stereo and 15khz not the 3Khz you are lucky to get out of the AM section of a car radio these days.

Lady Gaga must sound like crap on AM

You are assuming that gay people have the same tastes, likes, dislikes, etc., etc.,

BTW...What station(s) in SF or Toronto are running a "gay format"?

I may be wrong but I can't see a Gay format being major money maker on radio . Logo ( Gay TV ) will not work on radio. Jerry Springer format will not work on radio.
