"Boston's Fastest-growing Radio Station"?

I know readers of this board will throw cold (or even tepid) water on the idea that 12-plus Arbitrons(tm) have any meaning BUT: 969 FM Talk WTKK keeps advertising itself as "Boston's fastest-growing radio station". The 'trends a month ago show a slight decline in the 12-plus category...now the latest 'trend had 969 down even a little bit more. There MAY be some internals that show an uptick, but if you use internals, it's possible OTHER stations using them are growing faster. Oh...and WRKO's number is MUCH higher...weird, since the station is unlistenanble so many hours a day.

Strange to see that phrase used on a station with respectable numbers. It's usually the dog station that went from a .1 to a .2 that uses "(market's) fastest growing radio station". Sort of true I guess, not likely anyone else doubled their numbers. :-\

This is more of a sales pitch which is meant to drum up the trends or ratings. They're definitely making more money with talk than WRKO minus of the Sox network. Plus they're on FM so their demos are much more attractive to buyers than WRKO's crusty and bitter AM crowd. The Money Guy, Eddie and his Phanthom sons bring in nice time-buy weekend cash, too.

Enough about the ratings...can we talk about what a senseless positioning statement that is? What does that even mean?

It's supposed to make a potential sponsor think that their audience size is "growing" faster than any other station...

Well I'd like to think I'm not crusty and bitter but I listen to Howie on 'RKO (and the Sox, and...that's
about it). btw it was right around this time last yr when the Howie-in-limbo situation happened. HC's
"last 'RKO show" was Sept 19 of last year and he was due to appear on WTKK the next morning but the
judge had other ideas. He returned around Nov 19. (The big story at this time last year, which Howie
highlighted on what COULD have been his last 'RKO show, was.. "Don't tase me bro. Don't tase me.
I didn't do anything! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW!")
