Boston's Jim Mitchell

Jim Mitchell, veteran radio news personality, got his "start" in broadcasting at WLNH Laconia,NH quite by accident. His car broke down outside the radio station, and Jim came in to use the phone.

True story.

WBZ’s veteran weekend anchor dies unexpectedly

Jim Mitchell, who anchored the weekend afternoon news on WBZ AM 1030, died suddenly Wednesday morning, the station reported earlier today. Mitchell joined WBZ in 1998 and had a long career in the Boston market, including morning anchor at the old WHDH AM 850 and afternoon anchor at the old all-news WEEI AM 590.

Mitchell, 58, was also well known for his book store, Main Street Bookends, in Warner, NH.

Jim Mitchell was a class act. Glad I got to hear him Mothers' Day Weekend. Who hired him at WLNH, back in the day? James Marshall Rising?

Hello

I arrived at LNH just a few months after Jim was hired.
The legendary and funny story of how he came to the station is true.

I had the honor of working mornings with him for a few years.

Jim was a rare and special person, both on and off air.
His charm, his wit, his friendship will be sorely missed.

My thoughts and prayers to his family and to his thousands of friends.

;D

Whoops.

Sorry WB. It seems at times that you were at LNH since Marconi.

Or my memory is hazier than I've been told.

A celebration of Jim's life will take place in Warner, Tuesday June 17th at 2 p.m.
I hope to see you, as many of his friends will be there.

BTW, on a lighter note, mornings on LNH were Marconi, Jim Rising than me. ;)
